Well, that's a wrap for the WA deployment with Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service crews heading home on the Qantas jet plane!

Memories made, experiences gained, and new friendships fostered!

A big shout out to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA staff and volunteers for the first class hosting of the Tassie crews, and for the loan of their very capable appliances whilst in country!

Until next time 👍

With High Fire Danger ratings forecast for most of Tasmania tomorrow (Sunday, 1 February), there are a few things we can all do to stay safe.

🔥 Make sure any fires lit in recent days or weeks, including fire pits and other outdoor fires, are fully extinguished. Soak it. Stir it. Soak it again.

🗒️ Check your bushfire plan and prepare your property.

🔥 If you do see any signs of fire re-igniting such as smoke and flames, call Triple Zero (000).

📱 Keep up to date with warnings and information on the TasALERT app or at TasALERT.com, or by listening to ABC Local Radio.

📜Fire Permits are in place across the state, call 1800 000 699 to apply for a permit.

🔥 The 2024/25 Fire Permit Period has now ended.

🤝 If you’re considering burning on your property, you don’t currently require a fire permit, BUT we encourage you to register your burn by calling 1800 000 699.

ℹ️ Registering your burn will keep your local brigade in the loop with your plans so they can respond accordingly.

📍 Remember:

➡️ Anyone conducting a burn must be capable of managing it and mindful of weather conditions.

➡️ Make sure an adult is always attending the burn, until it is fully extinguished.

➡️ Have suitable working firefighting equipment available to appropriately manage fire activity in the event that the fire begins to spread.

➡️ Never light fires in peat, humus, or marram grass.

➡️ Landowners are responsible for any damage caused from fires escaping their land.

➡️ Make sure your neighbours are aware and that your burn won’t adversely affect their health, or farming operations – particularly the wine industry which is vulnerable to smoke.

➡️ Burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws and environmental laws about smoke emissions.

🔥ℹ️ With recent rainfalls and cooler temperatures, the risk of bushfire has eased in some parts of Tasmania, and the Autumn Fuel Reduction Program has commenced.

Fuel reduction burns are an important tool to help manage the risk of bushfire and autumn remains the safest time to undertake them.

Thank you to landowners, councils, volunteers, and the community for your continued support of the fuel reduction program – together we can reduce bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities.

You can help us by starting your preparations for next bushfire season - review your Bushfire Plan, prepare your home, and plan to safely undertake fuel reduction activities.

➡️ For further information on fuel reduction burns see - https://www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colWhatsBurningNow

➡️ Remember – the Tas Alert app can send you notifications when fuel reduction burns commence in your area.
