Today members from Douglas Park Rural Fire Brigade attended Fidgety Frogs Early Learning Centre in Douglas Park to assist with the opening of their new fire pit. Our job was to talk to the kids about the hazards associated with fire and safe behaviour around the fire pit. It was great to see how knowledgeable the kids were about fire safety and to see them all on their best behaviour.

Today our crew trained with our neighbouring brigade Menangle and Fire+Rescue NSW Rosemeadow .The training with Fire +Rescue NSW gives our crews a better understanding of their equipment and their different fire ground procedures and builds close working relationships .

Today our brigade with several other RFS brigades had the opportunity to participate in a multi agency pre fire season inspection with National Parks and Wildlife, Water NSW ,NSW Police and NSW Ambulance in the area of Wombeyan Caves Rd and adjoining Nattai wilderness
areas .

Today, Douglas Park RFS joined Mittagong RFS and Moss Vale RFS to assist in a cultural burn conducted on Gundungurra country at Mt Gibbergunyah in Mittagong. It was a great day that saw multiple organisations working well with each other.
One of our indigenous members, and proud Gundungurra man, Matt Riley, was stoked to be given the opportunity to start the burn on country, and drive Mittagong’s Cat 1 displaying traditional artwork depicting the Gundungurra dreaming story of fire.

At our AGM on Friday night 7 of our members recieved
their NSW Premiers Flood citations for the work they did in the 2022 -23 floods .
Congratulation to all for the work you did in that trying time .

At our AGM held last night our Captain Steve Greenwald who has held this position for the last 25 years stepped down to take on the position of Senior Deputy. Rodney King has been voted in by his peers to take on the position of Captain we wish them both the best in their new position .

The Official Bush Fire Danger Period will conclude at midnight tomorrow (31 March 2026) for the Wingecarribee Shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council LGA's.

From Wednesday 1 April, fire permits will no longer be required for residents, except those properties within the town limits of Warragamba, Picton, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Bowral and Bundanoon, who are required to obtain a fire permit from Fire & Rescue NSW all year round.

Even though a fire permit is no longer required, you must still notify your neighbours and the local fire authority 24 hours before burning as well as comply with any Council Backyard Burning Policies.

Before lighting up, you should also check the forecast weather conditions and have sufficient equipment on hand to control and contain the fire to your own property. Failure to notify neighbours or the RFS, or allowing a fire to escape can result in significant fines.

To notify of your intent to burn, use the online burn notification tool at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or call your local Fire Control Centre during business hours.
