Program: Reconnection, Employment and Learning (REAL) Program
Grants are now open for Phase 2 of the Reconnection, Employment and Learning (REAL) Program, an initiative that will support First Nations people exiting the justice system to build better connections with community, employment, education and training through personalised mentoring and support.
From 8 April 2026, eligible organisations are invited to apply for funding to deliver Phase 2 of the program. The competitive grants process for Phase 2 of the REAL Program will be open until 4 May 2026.
The program is available to First Nations people, aged 15 years and older, who are incarcerated with a known release date, or who are on remand. Support will commence up to 6 months before release and continue for up to 12 months post-release.
This phase will expand delivery across additional facilities nationally, continuing the programβs focus on supporting First Nations people transitioning out of the justice system and reestablishing themselves into the community.
The grant opportunity prioritises Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and other First Nations-led organisations, in alignment with Priority Reform Two of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, which seeks to build the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled sector.
Interested organisations are invited to apply for the funding via GrantConnect by 9.00pm (AEST) on Monday 4 May 2026.
