🎉 Happy 21st John! 🎉

Our team at Canowindra Community Health Centre recently celebrated a very special milestone for CSU second-year nursing student John Gragasin, who turned 21 while completing a month-long placement with the team.

Child & Family Health Nurse Celeste baked and decorated a delicious chocolate cake for the occasion, with staff coming together to sing Happy Birthday and celebrate.

John has brought enthusiasm, kindness and a great attitude to the team over the past month, and it has been wonderful having him at Canowindra Community Health Centre.

We wish John all the very best with the rest of his studies and his future nursing career. 👏🎂

brought to you by Bathurst Health Service Medical Ward!

At Western NSW Local Health District we are part of a very multicultural district, and it’s important that we not only celebrate each other’s cultures and differences, but also develop an understanding of how our own values and beliefs may differ from someone else’s.

On the Medical Ward in Bathurst, staff recently came together for a cultural celebration where team members shared both their similarities and cultural differences. Staff came to work in traditional clothing and brought food to share, creating a warm and inclusive environment that celebrated the diversity within our team.

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another, build respect for our peers, and further strengthen a workplace culture where everyone feels valued, included, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work.

Q fever is a bacterial infection that can cause a severe flu-like illness. Even people who do not have contact with animals can be infected.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families of those who work in high-risk occupations, such as shearing, wool sorting and farming are at increased risk.
Q fever can spread in a number of ways, including via:
🟠 contaminated clothing and boots being brought into the household.
🟠 while handling and washing clothes worn when birthing, butchering or slaughtering animals.
🟠 while mowing grass contaminated by infected animal excretions.
How to protect your family from Q fever:
✳️ Remove and wash dirty clothing, coveralls and boots worn during high-risk activities in outdoor wash areas.
✳️ Avoid taking these items home to reduce the risk of infection to your household.
✳️ If you do take them home, bag and wash them separately (these items should only be handled by those who have had Q fever before, or are vaccinated against Q fever).
