Members of DDPA (Dumbalk & District Progress Association) & guests invite members of Dumbalk Fire Brigade to a BBQ lunch on Sat 29 April at the Fire Station between between 1230hrs & 1330hrs
DDPA's intent is to acknowledge the dedication & commitment of Dumbalk FB members for the work they do in protecting the Community
Other community members are invited to join us at 1330hrs for an "open station", where we'll show off some of our gear & offer an opportunity to ask members about Winter Fire Safety, including flu treatments, smoke alarms & a quick check on personally owned fire extinguishers (these need to be brought to the station)
Brigade members will also talk to community members about becoming a member of the brigade & the different roles that people can take up as volunteer members of the fire brigade

To assist with catering we need RSVPs (& dietary needs) to me by Wed evening (26 April) - text 0419559367 or email [email protected])

Tonight is the end of daylight savings and we wind our clocks back 1 hr . This is also the perfect time to remember to change your smoke detectors battery. This must be done every year regardless of the battery not being flat. Hardwired smoke detectors also have batteries

These battery’s may be used in other devices but it is important that a full charged battery is in smoke detectors annually

99% percent of detectors will take a 9 volt (rectangular battery)

Those that need assistance changing the batteries you may contact your local fire station and assistance will be offered those in need.

Most of the state is now under fire restrictions however South Gippsland (=District 9) is NOT yet under restriction. we are watching the surrounding area drying however conditions are still acceptable to burn. We strongly recommend you plan your burning with low winds and mild temperatures in mind. Even today if you don’t consider this recommendation you are increasing the risk of fire escaping your control .

Remember your fires may appear to be out but may burn for many months with little smoke or flame visible you must be vigilant especially on hotter windy days we seen three fire in our area last year escape months after the fire appeared out as it was still burning deep in the fire

Today the Fire Danger Period (FDP) has been announced in parts of the state. It is important that we prepare in South Gippsland and although our Fire Danager Period (FDP) will not be forecast based on current local conditions it is important we are ready. Remember the larger our burn offs may reignite up to 4 months after the appear out and must be watched. These fires may burn deep and heaped ashes may retain heat for an extended period. 3 fires last season learnt this the hard way after fires in our area reignited. You must be aware you are responsible for the fire until extinguished and any reigniting penailties may be applied which may include prison should a fire ignite on a total fire ban day declared by the chief officer

The CFA brigades may be able to assist you should you have any questions and attending the fire stations when attended will ensure the best actions are referred to based on your risk.

Fire Season is approaching….

Although we are currently Green as can be we cannot under estimate Mother Nature and prepare our home for summer. Now is the time to commence property clean ups and burn offs to occur subject to your council bylaws.

Time will run out quickly don’t leave till last minute as the closer to the fire season the greater the risk of losing control of your burn off and reigniting in the fire season

Don’t forget to Register all burn offs as this stops unnecessary response of our volunteers and the possible expense to you

We thank the community for the ongoing support
