SES Dunkeld Unit

SES Dunkeld Unit Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) is made up of professional staff and dedicated volunteers from all ages and backgrounds.

Their common link is a desire to work as part of a team that gives back to the community they live in. More than 5,500 volunteers from all ages, professions and backgrounds serve in both operational and administrative roles across the state. Every one of our volunteers receives comprehensive training to enable them to respond to emergencies. From road rescue and flood response to community events

and logistics, volunteers continually develop and update their skills through the various courses and training programs provided by SES. SES volunteers are supported by approximately 200 full-time staff based in the organisation’s regional headquarters and offices around Victoria, and at Victorian Headquarters in Sturt Street, Southbank. The roles and responsibilities of SES staff members are backed up by a wealth of knowledge and experience in emergency management, education and response

Carrots are now an on-board requirement for the VICSES fleet to ensure volunteer responders can maintain minimum physical fitness for role standards, with recent studies showing a strong link between carrot intake of emergency responders and eye health.

With VICSES leading flood and storm response operations and playing an integral support role during search operations including for missing people and evidence, maintaining healthy eyesight is vital – especially at night and during low-light conditions.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to improve our service delivery.” said VICSES spokesperson, April Firsty. “Carrots have essential nutrients and can even improve night vision, which is crucial as part of our operational response”.

Special climate-controlled carrot stowage will be rolled out across our fleet in the near future which will ensure the healthy snack is always available to refuel on the go and improve responder vision. The colour of the vegetable is a coincidental bonus. The program will be reviewed at around midday today.

🚗 Summer holidays = busier roads. Let’s get there safely ☀️

With more people travelling on the roads, extra care must be taken when you're behind the wheel.

✔️ Plan your journey and allow extra time
✔️ Take regular breaks — fatigue can creep up quickly
✔️ Slow down and drive to the conditions
✔️ Never drive tired, distracted or under the influence

Our volunteers are on call 24/7, but the best outcome is always the one where our help isn’t needed.

Look after yourself, your passengers and everyone else on the road — so you can enjoy a safe and happy summer wherever you’re travelling.

As Australia’s largest road crash rescue network, we want you to stay safe on the roads this summer school holidays.

If you’re planning road trips, make sure you’re well rested before getting behind the wheel.

Taking a 15-minute break from driving every two hours can help you avoid fatigue related road incidents. Stop in at a Driver Reviver site powered by volunteers if you see one on your travels.
