International Firefighters’ Day – 4 May

Today we celebrate and honour firefighters around the world — the men and women who give their time, skills, and courage to protect their communities.

These photos say it all. From late-night operations out in the field, to training days, mop-up work, and crew gatherings back at the station — this is what volunteering looks like for the members of Charleyong RFS. 🚒

We don’t do it for recognition, but today is a good reminder of just how much our volunteers give. Weekends, early mornings, late nights — whatever it takes. We’re proud of every single one of them. ❤️

To firefighters everywhere — thank you. And to our Charleyong crew — we’re lucky to have you. 🙏

🎓 Investing in Leadership
This weekend, one of our crew leaders, Wade, gave up his weekend to complete RFS training in briefing and debriefing practice.
Not because he had to — because he believes that learning never stops, no matter how much experience you have.
The course covered skills that matter when it counts: how to structure and assign tasks to crews, how to deliver clear operational briefings on developing situations, and how to debrief effectively — drawing out the insights that make us better next time.
That kind of commitment to personal development is what makes Charleyong RFS stronger. When our leaders keep learning, the whole team benefits. 💪🔥

🔥🏠 Structure Fire Training 🏠🔥

Great morning out with the crew today running through structure fire operations.

As a rural brigade, our role at structure fires is focused on exposure protection and supporting our Structural and BA-qualified RFS brigades, along with our colleagues from Fire and Rescue NSW. Keeping these skills sharp is essential to ensure we can work safely and effectively together on the fireground. 💪

Training on scenarios we hope we never face is always valuable, and it’s great to see the continued commitment from our members.

Thanks to everyone who gave up their Saturday — your dedication helps keep our community safe. 🧡

We’ve been advised that NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in the Nadgigomar Nature Reserve, located at the end of Euradux Rd, over the coming days.

🚒 You may notice increased smoke in the area during this time — this is expected as part of the planned burn.

⚠️ Important reminder: If you see a fire that appears unattended or out of control, please call 000 immediately.

These burns play an important role in reducing bushfire risk and helping protect our community.

As daylight saving ends and we gain an extra hour, it’s a great opportunity to take a moment for home fire safety. It is important to check your smoke alarms to ensure they’re working properly.
It’s crucial your home has working smoke alarms, as they provide an early warning and give you and your family valuable time to escape during a house fire.
With the cooler months approaching, please stay safe this winter. There are several simple steps you can take, such as creating a home escape plan, ensuring your smoke alarm is working and keeping all items at least a meter from the heater.

🔥 Bushfire Danger Period Has Ended – What You Need to Know 🔥

As of today, 1 April 2026, the Bushfire Danger Period has now ended for the Lake George area. Fire permits are no longer required—but there are still important safety steps to follow:

✅ Notification is still required before lighting a fire. Landholders must:
📌 Register their burn via the NSW RFS Guardian portal: https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp
📞 Notify all adjacent landholders at least 24 hours in advance

⚠️ Stay fire safe when burning!
🌱 Always check conditions before lighting up—fires can still spread quickly, even outside the fire season.
🏡 Now is a great time to prepare your property ahead of the 2026/2027 Bushfire Danger Period. Reducing fuel loads now can make a big difference.

🚒 Thank you to the Charleyong community for your support and vigilance throughout the fire season. Let’s continue to look out for each other and stay safe.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out or visit the NSW RFS website for more information.

📡 Connectively upgraded at Charleyong – Starlink added to Charleyong 7

Charleyong Brigade has recently had Starlink installed on Charleyong 7, which is now being used as a Vehicle as a Node (VaaN) to support operations in our local area. 🚒

Reliable communication is critical during emergencies, especially in rural areas where radio and mobile coverage can be limited. With Starlink onboard, Charleyong 7 can provide a stronger and more reliable connection to support operational radio communications, helping crews stay connected and improving firefighter safety on the fireground. 👨‍🚒📡

This technology can also support the local community during emergencies. If mobile phone towers go down and people are near Charleyong 7, they may be able to connect to the Starlink Wi-Fi to make Wi-Fi calls to contact family, emergency services, or access important information. 📶📱

It’s another step forward in making sure our crews and community stay connected when it matters most.
