ALL TRAINS DEPART AND RETURN TO DWELLINGUP STATION, Western Australia. STEAM RANGER services are steam hauled and operate during the cooler and wetter months of the year, generally from May to October inclusive. RESTAURANT and FOREST TRAIN services are diesel hauled, and operate all year round on operating days.

It's been said that the Steam Locomotive is the closest thing to a living creature that mankind has ever devised, and when you witness Hotham Valley's STEAM RANGER service clawing it's way up some of Australia's toughest railway inclines you'll find this emotional sentiment easy to understand: it's a breathtaking spectacle nothing short of thrilling. When you match this thrill with the ever-changing scenic splendour of Western Australia's Darling Escarpment - from grassy fields to wild-flower covered hillsides - you'll have all the right ingredients for an unforgettable experience. Alternatively our RESTAURANT TRAIN - the Etmilyn Forest Diner - provides a unique 5-course dining experience as the train (with it's 1919 vintage dining car and 1884-built Club Car) meanders through the night-time forest, softly illuminated from the train. The DWELLINGUP FOREST TRAIN gives you the chance to get to grips with the same section of forest in the daylight - with an insightful commentary detailing the history of the state's last surviving pioneering railway and a thirty minute stop-over at Etmilyn siding. A very special drawing from one of our young visitors! 🚂

Driver Ian would like to say a big thank you to young Ned, who created this fantastic drawing and presented it to Ian during the Hotham Valley Railway Anniversary Festival.

Thanks also to Ned’s Mum, who we think may have helped just a little with the “Hotham Valley” lettering on the tender and perhaps a few of the trees! 😄 Most importantly, thank you for bringing Ned up to the locomotive to meet Ian and personally give him his drawing.

It’s always wonderful to see children engaging with our trains like this, making memories and clearly enjoying their time at Hotham Valley.
