AusAlert enables emergency service organisations to deliver emergency and public safety messages directly to compatible mobile phones and other SIM-enabled devices. The alerts override ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’ device settings.

The new system replaces existing emergency alert systems, delivering timely warnings for emergencies such as fires, floods or cyclones, security threats and health emergencies.

Targeted information for specific groups

Resources and information continue to be added to the AusAlert website https://www.ausalert.gov.au/community-resources Tfor specific groups of people that may require tailored information including:
• People living with disability
• Older Australians
• Young people
• First Nations peoples
• People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
• People affected by domestic and family violence.

As the system alerts override ‘silent’ and ‘do not disturb’ device settings, this may have safety implications for some groups of people, such as those with a hidden phone. Specific advice is being distributed through the Prevention of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioning area.

System testing and launch

AusAlert will be available from October 2026 with a Queensland launch date yet to be finalised. Prior to its official launch, the system will be tested in local trial sites across each state and territory, as well as a national trial.

The Queensland specific AusAlert test will take place at 2pm on 16 June 2026 in the Far North Queensland coastal townships of Cooya Beach, Newell and Wonga Beach.
A national test will be sent to all compatible mobile devices across Australia on Monday 27 July 2026.
The AusAlert website includes information on both the local and national trial tests.

People with disability of all ages continue to experience violence, neglect, abuse, and exploitation. This was highlighted in 2025 with the release of the Disability Royal Commission and remains a significant issue across Queensland.

Domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) disproportionately impacts people with disability. It also intersects with diverse identities, including First Nations people with disability, LGBTIQ+ people with disability, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

This event brings together speakers who have been working collaboratively to develop community-led solutions to address both interpersonal and institutional violence against people with disability. It is time to make our communities, homes, workplaces, and state-run institutions safer and more inclusive.

This roundtable is designed for:

People with disability who have lived experience of domestic, family, or sexual violence and wish to share community solutions or ideas

Community members who want to strengthen their understanding of how to support people with disability impacted by DFSV

Workers in the DFSV sector, including shelters, frontline services, policy roles, community programs, nurses, and mental health professionals

Disability advocates seeking to deepen their understanding of DFSV and community-based support options

Support coordinators, service providers, family members, friends, teachers, government employees, and anyone committed to better supporting people with disability

QAI is hosting a 90 minute online roundtable to bring together various speakers from across Qld will share the impacts of DFSV on people with disability.

The Queensland Government is undertaking a review of the
Carers (Recognition) Act 2008 (the Act). The review aims to ensure the Act continues to provide a strong and effective framework for recognising, supporting and promoting the vital role of unpaid carers across Queensland.

This consultation paper has been released including questions to help them understand carers’ experiences and perspectives on the Act. They also invite feedback from people supported by carers.

They are inviting you to share views, insights, and ideas.

Whether you choose to answer one question or several, your contribution will play a vital role in shaping the future of the Act.

Your views are important in helping ensure the Act is effectively helping carers.

If you require any assistance, or would like a printed copy of the consultation paper, please contact Dysart Community Centre on 4958 2461.
