We’re STEAMing into LEGO this month, with a host of group building events across our branches.

Thanks to a grant, Shae went shopping at Bendigo Golden Brick to kit us out with all the blocks needed to explore creative engineering concepts.

Check out our awesome events, from Aug 15 to 22, and book a place for your family. Link in the comments. 👇🏾

💰 Grants available for community groups to hold 16 Days of Activism events!

The City is offering grants of up to $1,500 to support local community groups and organisations who would like to deliver events or activities during the upcoming 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence.

16 Days of Activism is a global campaign that calls on communities to take action to prevent violence against women and promote respect, safety and equality.

We encourage local groups who would like to deliver an event, activity, conversation, or a creative or educational project that promotes these values to apply for funding.

All funded activities must be delivered between November 25 and December 10, 2026 and will be included within the broader 16 Days of Activism events calendar promoted by the City.

Applications close Friday May 29.

Whipstick critters 😍

On display at Bendigo Community Health Services Eaglehawk site.

It takes some serious patience to find the Whipstick’s twig-mimicking Katydid. For obvious reasons. But there’s not much about the forest on Eaglehawk’s fringe that evades Michael Barkla.

The BCHS client of almost 50 years – and local field naturalist – has spent decades documenting this rarest of environments, and its beasts big and miniscule.

A selection of Michael’s photographs of Whipstick invertebrates and flora are currently on show in the BCHS Eaglehawk site, delighting clients and staff.

“There’s such a range of insects that exist there, and I feel a need for people to know about them,” Michael says of sharing his work.

He says knowledge leads to care, and in his case, a life-long passion to protect the forest.
