Making an effort to name how we really feel in the moment is exceptionally brave and bold. Here's to less insecurity, sharing more vulnerability and being emotionally aware!

Too Many Choices = Cognitive Overload! 🤯 Cage free, caged, pasture raised, free-range, organic etc etc
Today I had stopped at the small local shopping centre to pick up some basic groceries. It's not just a quieter center; it has a "grab and go" vibe, which made me realize—people are drawn here for the mental clarity. Some of my clients might prefer it since they often struggle with decision making as it is.

Larger centers aren’t just crowded—they’re stressors, overwhelming shoppers with endless options.

In the last 50 years, products in the supermarket have exploded from 9,000 to 40,000 plus!!!!
Your brain has to filter, assess, and ignore thousands of choices, draining energy before you even pick what you need! 🧠😵

Author of The Organized Mind by Daniel Levitin states that the average household only buys about 150 regularly!
This surge in choices leads to decision fatigue and — is completely draining of our mental energy.
Therefore, there is still a good reason we need smaller retailers, and it's simply because people just don't need more stress in their lives.

Heres to the small retailer 🙌 Thank you for sticking around.

Fewer decisions = Clearer minds.

Some interesting books we came across while going through a clients bookshelf. Didnt check the date pf publishing but it may be as late as the 1970s or even 80s. With such negative connotations the term is replaced by Intellectual disability.

My TOP 5 STATIONARY items for 2023. There are some great planners and diaries out this year catering to those who like to dive deep into planning and keeping track of their goals. Here are some basics I use.

1..OTTO business planner from Officeworks - I've been buying this one for the last 3 years now. I like the vertical week to view for a visual time tracker and to gauge how busy my week will be. The format is congruent to my digital calendar. Yes I use both! I don't like to digitalise everything as I like to practice handwriting where possible and help enhance the flow of creativity when Im macro and micro planning by hand.

2. ANKO pens from Kmart - These are my favourite, they are inexpensive, write well (black only) and come in a pack of 5.

3. POST-IT Full Stick notes from Officeworks - full stick post it notes are a must in my everyday life. While I try not to use post-it notes very often, these are the only ones I will buy. The adhesive is the full back of the note and they don't curl or fall off easily. I place them in spaces where they are not covering important information. They are brilliant!

4. OXFORD SCRIBZEE Notebooks from Officeworks - I like to have a notebook handy for lots of reasons including client project planning, ideas, research, event planning, professional learning and notetaking. While I like to type my notes as well, I re-read more of my notes from these pads than anywhere else. This ticks both boxes as I can scan and store notes on the phone as well. Most of us need to tools to relieve the mental energy needed to keep track of our work. Its inefective to keep everything in our minds all the time. Writing things down helps with productivity, planning and ex*****on and eliciting problem solving. And for your mind, it's a form of stress relief and self care.

5. Lastly, FABER CASTELL textas or markers. Luckily my daughter has so many I can take a few colours without it being noticeable. I like these because I find they don't bleed through pages on both the diary and notebook. Obviously it depends on the thickness of the page but I try to avoid pens which bleed through.

Can you find something you no longer need to GIFT through GIVIT?

There are over 60,000 items required for people in need right across Australia. For people experiencing hardship, personal belongings and items become a economic measure of self worth. It's common to feel comparatively less valued because we don't have the same as others. Many people find it difficult to improve their circumstances on their own, however with GIVIT, the emphasis is on creating change.

Giving can be an extremely powerful experience especially if its purposeful. We feel empowered to be able to provide something for someone who wants and needs it. So it's always a good time to look around at what you have and see if someone can benefit from it.

Having worked with the most vulnerable in our community, these statistics are not surprising.
"People with disabilities are more likely to experience poverty, live in poor quality or insecure housing and have low levels of education. They are often socially isolated, with fewer opportunities to take part in community life"

Who is taking notes?
We are seeing too often clients unsatified when their goals are not reached because actions are neglected. If its not written down, it is almost considered to have never happened! This applies to many contexts with NDIS providers, schools, financial representatives, legal services and other stakeholders.

It may also makes sense to send a brief email a few days later, to remind agenices of the tasks agreed upon in that last meeting.

Government stealing your valuable time? We all know how bueaucracy compromises our ability to access supports we need quickly. Years can disappear stuck in processes and paperwork, sometimes with no benefit to you. The term for this is "sludge" and its perfectly posited by this Harved Professor Cass Sunstein.

We all get the clutter problem that's crippling people's homes but do we realise the next major problem families are facing? It's being buried under boxes!!

Yes, its what we call storage clutter! It's in spare rooms, garages and large areas and you dont know what you have until you pull it all together and find the matching lids. That's what we did here :)

So here's the tip: if you want a well organised space, try not to rush the process, declutter first, buy storage last.
