3,000,000,000
(Yes. That’s what three billion looks like.)

We’re celebrating a huge milestone: more than three billion containers have now been recycled and diverted from landfill through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic). That’s real, measurable environmental impact.

Since the scheme started in November 2023 the Campaspe Community has made a huge difference:

37,624,915 containers returned
$3,762,491.50 has been refunded

Every return counts. And together, they add up to something massive.

The state government has directed all local councils to rollout a separate glass recycling bin by mid-2027. Millions of ratepayer dollars will go into rolling out the additional glass recycling bins PLUS on-going costs.

Rolling out the purple glass bin for glass is not just a matter of dropping off a new bin and adding a truck. The infrastructure required is significant, and the bill lands squarely on your rates.

Council-commissioned modelling found a $150 million statewide setup cost for the new glass bin network, before a single bottle is collected. Add to that an average of $27 per household per year in ongoing annual costs.

Councils aren't opposed to glass recycling. They're opposed to being handed an expensive, inflexible mandate without a proper business case being released or the community being consulted.

If you support a cheaper way to recycle glass, let the state government know:
