🌱 Goroke Kindergarten’s new inclusive playground is now complete, bringing to life ideas originally designed by the children themselves.

In 2024, kindergarten students helped shape the playground by choosing equipment such as swings, a trampoline, a basket swing, slide, stepping stones and a boat. Those ideas guided the final design of the upgraded play space.

This week, the original student designers, now in prep, grade 1 and grade 2, returned to Goroke Kindergarten to see their ideas brought to life and celebrate alongside current kindergarten children.

💡 LED lighting upgrades are underway across West Wimmera Shire Council facilities.

Contractors have nearly completed, upgrades in Edenhope, Harrow and Apsley. Works will continue in Goroke and Kaniva over the coming weeks.

As part of the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, older lighting is being replaced with energy-efficient LED lighting to help reduce energy consumption and improve lighting performance.

Community members may notice contractors working in and around Council buildings while these upgrades are being carried out. Thank you for your patience during these works.

🏗️ Progress continues on plans for childcare service in Goroke.

📝 At a confidential unscheduled Council meeting earlier this month, Council formally resolved to apply for funding through the Australian Government’s Building Early Education Fund to support an expansion of the Goroke Kindergarten building. The project will aim to improve access to early childhood education and care in Goroke.

👶 The proposed development would expand the existing kindergarten building to accommodate a future long day care service for children aged 0 to 5 years, helping to meet identified local needs and support families in the area.

💰 The proposed project would see Council contribute $200,000, alongside contributions of $15,000 from the Goroke Parents Advisory Group and $20,000 from the Goroke Apex Club, with a funding request of $1.975 million submitted through the Small Scale Grant Opportunities stream.

⏳ The project remains subject to funding approval, with further updates to be provided as investigations progress.

🎉 GREAT NEWS! Two community projects have received funding through the State Government's Tiny Towns Fund.

🏃 In Edenhope, we will build a shelter at the Lake Wallace parkrun finish area, providing weather protection for volunteers, participants and visitors using the walking trail.

🏛️ In Apsley, funding will support important upgrades to the Apsley Hall, including asbestos removal, improved amenities and a new accessible entrance pathway.

🙏 West Wimmera Shire Council acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government through the Tiny Towns Fund in making these projects possible.
