We are deeply saddened by the news of three firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty in Greece.

On behalf of CFA, we extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, colleagues and the wider firefighting community.

As extreme heat, strong winds, and rapidly spreading fire conditions challenged crews on multiple fronts, these firefighters answered the call with courage, commitment, and selfless service. Their dedication to protecting others came at the highest possible cost.

These tragic events serve as a powerful reminder of the courage and dedication firefighters demonstrate every day to protect their communities.

🕯️ Rest in Peace. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

📢 National AusAlert Test – Monday 27 July 2026

A test AusAlert Critical Alert will be sent to mobile devices across Australia on Monday 27 July. This includes most mobile phones, as well as some smart watches and tablets.

⚠️ Important:
• AusAlert does not replace the VicEmergency app.

🕒 Test Times
• ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, VIC – 2:00 pm (AEST)
• NT, SA (including Broken Hill) – 1:30 pm (ACST)
• WA – 12:00 pm (AWST)

📱 What to Expect
Your device will:
✅ Vibrate
✅ Play a loud siren-like sound for approximately 10 seconds
✅ Display a message clearly stating that it is a test

🙌 Prefer Not to Receive the Test?
As a Critical Alert, it cannot be switched off in your device settings.

On Sunday 19th July 2026, Alexandra Fire Brigade Captain Chris Lynch together with Ambulance Victoria Paramedic Community Support Coordinator Mick de Groot visited the Eildon Fire Station.
Members from the Eildon Fire Brigade were in attendance to discuss how the Fire Medical Response Team can support the Eildon Fire Brigade. FMR focuses on cardiac and respiratory-arrest emergencies, with both agencies (FMR and AV) paged at the same time to these calls. FMR provides assistance to AV at the most critical of emergencies. Just as CFA brigades call for assistance when a fire escalates, AV are able to provide best patient care to critically unwell patients when they have assistance from additional trained personnel. 👉❗️BE ALERT TO AusAlert❗️👈
AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during local and national disasters.
AusAlert messages keep communities informed so they can take action, saving lives and property.
The AusAlert system will be tested nationally on the 27th July with Victorian testing to take place at 2pm. Promotions supporting this test have begun and will be increasing leading up to the 27th.
AusAlert will not replace the VicEmergency App.
Community resources containing information about the alerting system and the upcoming test is available on the AusAlert website in English and languages including Hindi, Italian, Karen, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese.

We send our deepest condolences to all families, friends and colleagues of the three wildland firefighters who tragically lost their lives while responding to fires along the Colorado–Utah border.
Emily Barker (38), Nick Hutcherson (27) and Sydney Watson (27) were killed on 27 June during a burnover while conducting initial attack on the Knowles Fire in western Colorado. They deployed emergency fire shelters after rapidly spreading flames cut off their escape routes, but were overcome by the fire. Two firefighters were also injured and are currently receiving medical care.
We stand with the global firefighting community in honouring their courage, service and sacrifice.

The recent devastating fires, which came close to impacting our own township and heavily affected others, showed just how much we rely on volunteers – and why we NEED more people to step up, give us a hand and help share the load.

On Sunday 21st June 2026, Alexandra SES Unit Controller Trevor Evans, together with Deputy Controller Operations Peter Weeks, Assistant Deputy Controller Angela and Unit Member Faye visited the Eildon Fire Station. Members from both Eildon and Thornton Fire Brigades were in attendance to discuss how the brigades can prepare the scene for SES prior to their arrival at a motor vehicle accident. A PowerPoint presentation, followed by indepth discussions were had and familiarisation of the SES appliance and demonstration of equipment.

Today is Thank a First Responder Day, and we would like to take a moment to recognise and thank the incredible volunteers of the Eildon Fire Brigade.

We would also like to acknowledge our fellow First Responders - Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic), Victoria State Emergency Service (VicSES), Victoria Police (VicPol), Ambulance Victoria (AV) and Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). We work as one to keep our communities safe.
