When a crash happens in Nillumbik, our SES Rescue crew is one of the ones on the way. We're part of the largest road crash rescue network in Australia. It's National Road Safety Week, and our message is a simple one. Every person in every car is someone's. A neighbour, a parent, a kid heading home. While we train to be ready, we would be glad to do this part of the job far less often. So this week, three things:
☑️Slow down.
☑️Put the phone out of reach, not just face down.
☑️Drive like the people you love are on the same road. Because someone's are.
Look out for each other out there.

Wear Orange Wednesday is upon us! A day to recognise the effort and support that VICSES members provide to their local communities. This year was no different, and we had a few locals show their support for the SES Nillumbik unit.
Our neighbours, Bunnings Eltham, put on a great lunch for our members and our friend and Emergency Services Minister Vicki Ward MP for Eltham dropping by with very orange cupcakes from Bretts Patisserie.

Congratulations to members Wayne and Paul on completing their intensive Road Crash Rescue (RCR) training course to become qualified RCR operators. A timely addition to our RCR capability during National Road Safety Week aiming to reduce road trauma. We hope you don't need to use your new skills! https://roadsafetyweek.com.au/

Glad you asked - our members will be out and about training in Eltham this evening (Mon 27 Apr 2026) between 7:30 and 10:00pm. SES rescue trucks and search crews will be involved in an exercise in parkland around the Diamond Creek. No need to be alarmed. 👀👍

Happy Friday, it's "Tool Time Friday". Today we are showcasing heavy lifting bags used to help lift heavy objects in rescue situations such as a person pinned under industrial equipment.

We would like to thank the Eltham Op Shop - Combined Churches of Eltham who recently provided us with a very generous donation which will be used to support the update of many rescue tools in our trucks. Thanks for this donation, it was unexpected and we are very appreciative of your support.

Happy Friday, it's "Tool Time Friday". Today we are talking about a kit called a domestic rescue kit, used to help us extract little fingers stuck in plug holes, rings stuck on fingers, body parts stuck in furniture, appliances, or other items found at home or kinder/playground.

Last Saturday, four Nillumbik SES members headed out west to participate in the ninth annual Women in Rescue event.

Lacey, Mel, Rachel and Ash hit the road and participated in training sessions, including Road Crash Rescue, Safe working at heights, Search and Rescue, Fire Safety and Incident Management, with each person having a different favourite.

Sharing the stage with SES members during the training session were representatives from Ambulance Victoria, St Johns, CFA and Victoria Police. Overall, a great opportunity for participants to get experience under their belt, and confident in the roles that they contribute to the SES.

We're looking forward to participating in the 10th Women in Rescue!!
