Council has appointed Jason Hoolihan as its new Chief Executive Officer 👏

Following a nationwide recruitment process that attracted more than 70 applications, Mr Hoolihan was selected to lead council into its next chapter.

A few facts about Jason:

💼 He has lived in the Central Highlands since 2003.
💼 He joined council in 2015.
💼 He has held the Director Operations role since 2020.
💼He has extensive experience in civil engineering, project management, infrastructure, and water utilities.

Jason will step into the CEO position in early September.

It’s game on at McIndoe Park! 🏉🎉

The new Bob Love Clubhouse is ready for first try celebrations, post-game feeds, club fundraisers, and big sporting events.

With a new canteen, commercial kitchen, outdoor entertaining area, barbecue space and accessible pathways, this building is about more than bricks and mortar 💚

And the upgrades aren’t stopping there, with works continuing on the new full-size field 🌱

Federal Member for Flynn Colin Boyce MP visited council's Emerald office last week to chat all things Central Highlands.

Mayor Janice Moriarty shared our Priority Projects and Advocacy Plan 2026-2028, while Colin provided an update on some of the federal issues affecting our region.

Why not take a trip out to Roy Day Park in Sapphire and celebrate the rich mining history of the Gemfields?

Jewel of the Gemfields 2026 was officially opened by Mayor Moriarty this morning, with councillors, event sponsors, and Federal Member for Flynn, Mr Colin Boyce MP, also in attendance.

Local events like this help support our local economy, showcase our communities and encourage visitors to explore the region. The event runs across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 7, 8 and 9 August.

🎵 On the road again 🎵

We were pleased to be out and about on Wednesday for our latest round of Community Consults in Rolleston and Arcadia Valley.

These sessions are a valuable opportunity for residents to meet with councillors, hear local council updates, ask questions and share feedback on what matters most in their community.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to come along and speak with us. We appreciated the questions and conversations on a range of topics, including road updates, biosecurity, our gravel pit strategy and the recruitment process for our new permanent Chief Executive Officer.

Willows, Bogantungan and Lochington – you’re up next! We look forward to seeing you on 19 August 📆

💧 We’re investing $8.9 M in key water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades across the Central Highlands this year to help keep local services safe, reliable and ready for the future.

Some of the projects we’re working on:

📍 Bauhinia: New solar-powered chlorination system to improve water treatment.
📍 Blackwater: Automated pipeline connection to better manage treated wastewater during wet weather.
📍 Capella: Raw water channel repairs to help secure town water supplies before the next wet season.
