Last weekend Emerald Fire Brigade participated in a Fire Medical Response (FMR) mass casualty training exercise. The training gives crews experience in the event of a large scale incident involving the triage and treatment of numerous injuries amongst a large number of casualties.

Well done to all crew involved and to the organisers of the day.

It may be little cold and wet outside and seem a long way off summer but for Emerald Fire Brigade now is the time we start preparing for the warmer months.

Tonight we were out running some fire season training and doing some burn-over drills.
Now is also a great time to start preparing your own property for the warmer weather.

Do you recognise where we were tonight?

🔥 Planning a burn-off? 🔥

Burning off can be an important part of preparing your property for the fire season, but before lighting up, make sure you’re prepared and know the rules that apply in your area.

Before you burn:

🔥 Check local restrictions – Check with your local council to make sure burning off is permitted. Restrictions can vary depending on your location, property size and time of year.

🌦️ Check the weather – Consider wind speed and direction, and postpone your burn if conditions aren’t suitable.

📞 Register your burn-off – Register your burn before lighting up so emergency services know it’s a planned burn and don’t respond unnecessarily to reports of smoke by going to firepermits.vic.gov.au or by calling 1800 668 511.

🏠 Let your neighbours know – Give nearby residents advance notice, particularly those who may be affected by smoke.

💧 Be prepared – Have an adequate water supply and firefighting equipment ready before you light the fire.

👀 Never leave it unattended – Someone must remain with the burn and ensure it stays under control.

✅ Make sure it’s completely out – Don’t leave the area until the fire is fully extinguished and there is no risk of it reigniting.

🚨 If your burn-off gets out of control, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Taking a little extra time to plan your burn-off can prevent an unnecessary brigade response — or a burn-off becoming a much bigger emergency.

Know the rules. Check the conditions. Register your burn.

Emerald Fire Brigade would like to sincerely thank the Community Bank Dandenong Ranges, Community Bank Emerald & District and Community Bank Upwey & District for its generous $10,000 donation to the brigade.

We were incredibly excited to receive this news and can't thank Community Bank Dandenong Ranges enough for the ongoing support they provide not only to our brigade, but to CFA brigades right across the Dandenong Ranges.

Recent donations from Community Bank Dandenong Ranges also include chainsaws, thermal imaging cameras and specialist tools all which allow us to better protect and support our community when it needs us most.

As a 100% volunteer organisation we rely on fundraising and the generosity of our community to purchase new and replacement equipment that allows us to respond safely and effectively to emergencies.

Community Bank Dandenong Ranges is a fantastic supporter of local organisations and community groups, with profits being reinvested back into the communities they serve. Their commitment to strengthening local emergency services makes a real difference, and this donation will help ensure Emerald Fire Brigade can continue providing the highest level of service to our community.

On behalf of all our members, thank you for your continued support and for investing in the safety and resilience of our local community.

🌬️ A friendly weather reminder from Emerald Fire Brigade

With windy conditions around today, now is a good time to secure any loose items around your property, including outdoor furniture, trampolines, bins and umbrellas.

Living in the Dandenong Ranges, we know how quickly strong winds can lead to fallen trees, road hazards and power outages. If you're heading out, please take extra care on the roads and watch for debris.

It's also a good idea to charge your devices and ensure your generator is fuelled and ready to go should the power go out.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and take care during today's windy conditions.

Tonight Emerald Fire Brigade training was delivered by Ambulance Victoria, with a focus on maintaining and enhancing our Fire Medical Response (FMR) skills.

As an FMR-qualified brigade, keeping these skills current is essential. Working closely with Ambulance Victoria ensures we can provide effective assistance at medical emergencies until paramedics arrive and continue to work seamlessly alongside them once they’re on scene.

A big thank you to Ambulance Victoria for their ongoing support, expertise, and partnership. Training together like this strengthens our ability to provide the best possible care and outcomes for our community.

🚂✨ As another season of the Train of Lights comes to an end, we'd like to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible event it has been.

Over the past 25 nights, members from Emerald Fire Brigades and Gembrook Fire Brigades proudly worked together to run the BBQ at Gembrook Station. It has been an amazing fundraiser for our brigade, and we are incredibly grateful to Puffing Billy Railway for giving us this fantastic opportunity.

👏 A huge thank you also goes to all of our dedicated brigade members, volunteers, family and friends who gave up their time to set up, cook, serve and pack down night after night. Your commitment and teamwork made this event such a success.

❤️ Most importantly, we'd like to acknowledge and sincerely thank our incredible local supporters:

❤️ Emerald Lions club
❤️ Cockatoo IGA
❤️ Emerald Mitre 10
❤️ Emerald Woolworths
❤️ Cockatoo Bakery

Your generosity and support helped make this fundraiser possible, and we truly appreciate everything you've done for our brigades.

🏡 Living in a small community is something special. Time and time again, our local businesses step up to support community groups, and we're so lucky to have them right on our doorstep.

If you're passing by, we'd love to encourage everyone to support these wonderful local businesses whenever you can. Together, we help make our community stronger.

🚒🔥🌭❤️ We can't wait to do it all again next season!

Don't underestimate the importance of a fire extinguisher readily available in your home.

Yesterday Emerald Fire Brigade along with Cockatoo Rural Fire Brigade(CFA) and Macclesfield Fire Brigade (CFA) were called to a laundry fire. Upon arrival crews in breathing apparatus entered the property to find that the resident had already extinguished the fire with a nearby fire extinguisher. Crews checked for any fire extension and made the scene safe.

Thanks to the quick actions of the resident and the availability of a fire extinguisher, the fire was contained before it could cause significantly greater damage to the property.

Do you have a fire blanket and fire extinguisher in your house? More importantly do you know how to 🚨safely🚨 use these in the event of an emergency? Do you regularly check that they remain in good working order?
