Yesterday, AFAC News released the Bushfire Seasonal Outlook for Winter. NSW has experienced a warmer and drier autumn than usual, with less rainfall than normal.

While parts of the state received some rainfall in mid to late May, it has not been enough to significantly improve the long-term rainfall deficits or ongoing dry conditions. As a result, many areas remain unusually dry, with some parts of northern NSW already experiencing drought conditions.

Looking ahead, forecasts suggest winter is also likely to be drier than average, particularly later in the season, with warmer daytime temperatures expected across much of the state. These conditions, especially across northern, central and eastern NSW, are increasing the risk of bushfires this winter, including fires that may be more difficult to control.

🚘 DELAYED UPGRADE OF AVOCA DRIVE A STEP CLOSER 🤔

The concept design and Review of Environmental Factors for the Avoca Drive upgrade is now on exhibition, with the community invited to have their say!

After years of delays under the Albanese and Minns Governments, I'm pleased to see this project move forward, but frankly we shouldn't have had to wait this long.

I’ll continue fighting to expedite delivery of this upgrade for our community👍

⚠️ Flash flooding is occurring across parts of the Central Coast after heavy rainfall overnight, with wet weather expected to continue throughout the day.

NSW SES volunteers responded to flood rescues in the early hours of this morning at Ourimbah, Erina Heights and Narara after vehicles became trapped in floodwater.

Please take extra care on the roads today. If you come across flooding, don’t get swept up in the moment — stop, turn around and find another way.
Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.

☎️ For emergency assistance during floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. If life-threatening, call Triple Zero (000).

⛈️ For the remainder of today across Gosford and the wider Central Coast, expect periods of showers and thunderstorms, with some heavy bursts of rain possible this afternoon and evening. There is also a risk of localised flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Rainfall totals for the rest of today are generally expected to be around 15–35mm, though isolated heavier falls are possible under thunderstorms. Some parts of the Coast could see closer to 40mm or more where storms repeatedly move over the same area.

Temperatures will stay mild, around 20–21°C, with southerly winds increasing through the afternoon and evening. Conditions are expected to ease gradually tomorrow afternoon.

Congratulations Phoebe.

LASTING IMPACT: When a 10-year-old boy was going through the most traumatic time in his young life - Intensive Care Paramedic Phoebe was right by his side.

After discovering that his father had passed away overnight, he was initially supported by family members outside the home while paramedics responded inside. During this deeply distressing moment, Phoebe showed remarkable empathy, taking the time to gently comfort the devastated young boy.

She acknowledged his bravery and reassured him that he had done everything he could to help his father. Understanding the importance of small comforts in overwhelming circumstances, Phoebe asked if there was anything he would like from inside the home, returning with some of his favourite items, offering a sense of familiarity and comfort as he began to process an unimaginable loss.

The young boy’s family later expressed their heartfelt gratitude for this kindness and care, sharing that “her actions will have a lasting impact and positively shape how he remembers that day.”

In recognition of her outstanding compassion and care, Phoebe was presented with the Emblem of Kindness by Interim Chief Executive Clare Beech on Friday.

Another beautiful example of how the humanity behind our care can leave a profound and lasting impact.
