12th Chief Engineer Works This is the official Facebook account for the Australian Army's 12th Chief Engineer Works. Sharing, liking or commenting does not equal endorsement.

12th Chief Engineer Works, based at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane, is the sister unit to 19th Chief Engineer Works which is at Randwick Barracks in Sydney. Together the units, which are part of 6th Brigade, provide the ADF with a deployable design and project management capability for the delivery of facilities and infrastructure projects in support of the Joint Force, coalition and interagency p

artners. Having operated within Mendi, PNG, under other names as early as 1 July 1971, 12th Chief Engineer Works became officially known by that name in March 1978. Before being disestablished on 8 December 1999, 12th Chief Engineer Works acted as the Department of Works for PNG, undertaking ‘nation building’ projects, including the construction of roads, bridges, airstrips and living accommodation as public buildings such as schools, hospitals and aid posts. On 23 April 2022, 12th Chief Engineer Works will be formally re-raised through a ceremony at the headquarters building at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane. The unit is comprised of professional civil engineers, project managers, construction supervisors, surveyors and architectural draftsman as well as information system engineers, administrative support staff and a multi-media technician. The unit will contribute to a number of Defence infrastructure projects in the Pacific region as part of Australian Government’s Pacific Step-up and Defence Cooperation Programs, enhancing infrastructure in support of our partner nations.

Building strong connections between army and industry

12th Chief Engineer Works is teaming up with Australian Marine and Civil Pty Ltd for an exciting nine-month industry placement—kicking off a partnership that builds more than just infrastructure.

After formalising the agreement and swapping cams for high vis, Army Project Engineer Captain Luke Pressler will gain hands-on experience and fresh insight into the civilian construction industry working on the Crockatt Park Seawall Upgrade at Woody Point, Redcliffe, which will improve longevity and accessibility of the area by protecting the foreshore area from erosion, severe weather and sea level rise. The projects delivered by Australian Marine and Civil Pty Ltd present a great opportunity for 12 CE Works to build our understanding of infrastructure delivery in the littoral environment.

Opportunities like this strengthen Army’s engineering capability by exposing our people to projects beyond the scope of Defence—building skills, knowledge, and partnerships that benefit both industry and Army.

🇹🇴🇦🇺
Leading up to Christmas 12th Chief Engineer Works has been working on delivering new facilities for His Majesty's Armed Forces - Tonga Air Wing. The project includes the construction of a new air hangar, fuel store and administration building to enable expansion of the Air Wing.

Working with McConnell Dowell, early works are well underway for the large pad footings that will enable the hangar building to withstand extreme winds often experienced by our Tongan brothers and sisters in the cyclone season. 12th Chief Engineer Works is excited to be joined by a construction team from 6th Engineer Support Regiment to conduct the remaining construction work in 2026!

Letting the community in at Western Border Outpost! 👀
150 members of the Shortlands community were able to get a feel for the progress that’s already been made in keeping Solomon Islands safe, thanks to an open day at Lofung hosted by the Australian Department of Defence and site contractors.
Members of the community visited the site and learnt about the facilities, including the wharf, office buildings, accommodation, generators and boat shed.
Local schools also got their hands on some sports supplies ⚽
The Western Border Outpost will be home to RSIPF and customs officials, and will support Solomon Islands’ Guardian-class patrol boats provided by Australia 🤝
