🎯 Leadership under pressure starts with mastering the fundamentals. 💥

Last month, Officer Cadets from Sydney University Regiment (SUR) took to the range as part of a demanding training weekend, conducting combat shooting activities integrated with combat behaviours — developing the ability to think, move and lead in dynamic environments. 🪖

More than marksmanship, this training builds discipline, decision-making, situational awareness and the confidence to perform under pressure — critical attributes for future Australian Army officers.

At SUR, Officer Cadets are challenged through high-standard, realistic training designed to prepare them for leadership in complex environments, ensuring they are ready to lead by example when it matters most. 👊

👀Cam up. Face out. Lead from the front.

Officer Cadets from the Western Australian University Regiment have been putting their leadership to the test during Exercise LONG HAI — a key milestone in the Army’s Officer Cadet training continuum.

Across an intensive field phase, they honed their warfighting fundamentals, strengthened their section‑level leadership, and sharpened the decision‑making skills that define an Army Officer.

If you’re looking to accelerate your leadership, challenge yourself, and gain nationally recognised management skills — all while earning tax‑free pay in a flexible, part‑time role — the Army Reserve Officer pathway could be for you.

Whether your interests are in combat, logistics, trades, administration, IT or health, Officer training builds confidence, resilience and the ability to lead teams in complex environments.

🎖️🇦🇺👏 Set against the historic grounds of Victoria Barracks Sydney, the latest cohort of Reserve commissioned officers proudly graduated, marking the culmination of a demanding and transformative journey.

These officers have successfully completed a rigorous curriculum designed to test both mind and body. Through sustained physical challenges, complex decision-making, and leadership under pressure, they have developed the resilience, strategic thinking, and professionalism required of modern Army officers. This achievement reflects not only individual determination, but a collective commitment to excellence and service.

The parade was reviewed by Brigadier Moss, whose presence underscored the significance of this accomplishment and the importance of developing capable leaders for the future force.

To each of the newly commissioned officers — congratulations. You have earned your place through hard work, discipline, and perseverance. As you step forward into leadership roles, you carry with you the responsibility to inspire, to lead with integrity, and to uphold the values of the Australian Army.

The future of the Army is stronger because of you.

📖💬 Strong leadership, open conversations and investing in the next generation of Army leaders.

As part of the ongoing leadership visits across the University Regiments, the 8th Brigade command team recently visited Queensland University Regiment to engage directly with Officer Cadets, staff and trainees.

From Greenbank Training Area to Gallipoli Barracks and St Lucia, the visit provided an opportunity to discuss leadership, the evolving strategic environment and the future direction of Army. Professional Military Education sessions gave members the chance to ask questions, share perspectives and hear firsthand insights from Commander 8th Brigade, Brigadier Scott Denner, alongside RSM WO1 Peter Kirkman and Deputy Commander Colonel Andrew White.

🎖️🇦🇺 A proud moment during the visit also saw Officer Cadet Lucinda Boon presented with the Australian Operational Service Medal – Border Protection and Operational Service Badge – Military, recognising her previous service with Kimberley Squadron NORFORCE.

8th Brigade remains committed to developing capable leaders, strengthening connections across the Brigade and investing in the future force.

Strong leadership is built through connection, presence, and shared experience.

This week, Commander 8th Brigade, BRIG Scott Denner, and Brigade RSM WO1 Peter Kirkman spent time with the team at Melbourne University Regiment, engaging directly with those undertaking key training courses shaping the next generation of Army leaders.

From Land Combat Module trainees to Warrant Officer development and Officer Cadets progressing through the PTOCP, the visit reinforced the Brigade’s commitment to investing in people and ensuring our future leaders are prepared, capable, and connected.

Opportunities like this—where trainees can engage directly with senior leadership—are critical in building confidence, understanding, and professional growth.

Well done to Melbourne University Regiment - Australian Army for continuing to deliver high-quality training outcomes.

🌺🇦🇺🇳🇿
Across Australia this ANZAC Day, members of university regiments stood alongside the community, continuing a legacy that stretches from the lecture halls of the early 20th century to today’s modern force.

University regiments have long played a vital role in preparing young Australians for leadership in uniform, contributing officers to conflicts from Gallipoli to contemporary operations. Their enduring connection to the ANZAC story reflects the values of service, resilience and mateship forged more than a century ago.

That legacy will again was on display ANZAC Day 2026.
Commander of the 8th Brigade, Brigadier Scott Denner said for many of our cadets, this is their first ANZAC Day in uniform.
“They are not just observing the legacy - they are stepping into it.” Brigadier Denner said.
Lest we forget.

First wreath laid this Anzac Day 🌺

A simple, heartfelt moment to begin a day of reflection and remembrance. After laying the wreath, our young visitors were invited onto the base, where they had the chance to meet our soldiers and get an up-close look at the G-Wagons. Their curiosity and excitement brought a special energy to the day, as they asked questions, explored, and connected with the people behind the uniform.

A meaningful reminder of why we commemorate - honouring the past while inspiring the next generation.

Lest we forget.
