For Somerset poultry farmers, Ray and Dianne Mayne, water security is crucial. 💦

Their Coominya operation, Rocky Gully Farm, produces about 250,000 chickens every couple of months across six sheds.

Each shed uses about 15,000 litres of water a day, and in the heat of summer, that can double just to keep their birds cool.

To secure water through the Lockyer Valley and Somerset Water Security Scheme would be a game changer for many farmers including Ray and Dianne.

“We’ve been trying to get water for the last 30 years. The security of water is our biggest thing,” Ray said.

Round one of Council's 2026-2027 Community Assistance Grants is open.

In addition to ordinary grant applications, round one applicants can apply for rates remissions and Christmas projects and events. 🎄

The round closes 5pm Wednesday, 26 August 2026, and projects must not have a start date before Friday, 25 September 2026.
