In an emergency call Triple Zero (000). The Esperance Emergency Support Unit supports Emergency Services in the Shire of Esperance. Residents living in Esperance are invited to follow our page for information on preparing for fire season or dangerous weather events, as well as finding out about what we do. Esperance Emergency Support Unit (EESU) meet monthly during the colder months, and fortnight

ly from October to May. The community are welcome to join us on Tuesday nights (fortnightly or monthly); 6pm to 7pm at the Quarry Road Bushfire Brigade Shed. The EESU run the Incident Control Vehicle (ICV), which serves as a forward command post during incidents. Once the commanding agency request our assistance during a local incident, we organise two to three volunteers to attend with the ICV. We also establish a roster of volunteers to be deployed if the incident goes for any length of time. The volunteers work around what time they can commit. On arrival we set up the van and establish communications with the command agency. On board the van we have mapping capabilities and can print off maps and information for the teams. We monitor all radio channels for land, air and marine needs as the command agency require. We may also assist with other logistics, even if the ICV is not required. For example, our volunteers worked as radio operators at the Esperance Colocation Facility on Brazier Street, assisting the SES during an incident. We follow the AIIMS (Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System) that all Australian emergency service agencies follow during an incident. We always welcome new members!

Have you been helped by Paul Gaughan in the last 14 years? He was Esperance’s first community paramedic, and he's retiring!

Esperance’s first community paramedic Paul Gaughan is calling it a day after 14 years in the role.  Paul’s journey with St John WA began more than 30 years ago, and there would be very few in country emergency response who wouldn’t have worked with, learned from or heard of him.  Over...

This national alert will be on 27 July, at about 12 noon in WA.

The national test of AusAlert is happening on Monday 27 July 2026 at around 2pm AEST. 📅

AusAlert sends near-instant emergency messages to compatible mobile devices like mobile phones, tablets and smart watches. It uses vibration, sound and on-screen messages to get your attention.

If your device receives the national test, it will vibrate and make a loud siren-like sound for 10 seconds before stopping. As the national test is a Critical Alert, this happens even if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.

You may receive this test while driving, riding or using public transport. 🛻

If you are driving or riding, stay calm and don’t touch your device. ⚠️

The alert may also play through your vehicle’s speakers using Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or Bluetooth and may interrupt navigation or media like music or podcasts. 📱

🚨Mobile phone laws still apply – don't read or respond to the alert while operating a vehicle. Only check the message when your vehicle is turned off and it is safe and legal to do so.

🚌 If you receive an alert while on public transport, stay calm. Don't approach the driver about the alert.

This is just a test, and you do not need to do anything. You should always follow instructions or announcements from public transport staff.
