Meet our Team

Starting with our Admin/Training Officer LT(AAC) Jackson Steele.

With over 8 years in Army Cadets as both a Cadet and now Staff, LT(AAC) Jackson Steele brings a wealth of experience, commitment and leadership to 503 Army Cadet Unit.

Describing himself as reliable, determined and approachable, Jackson is passionate about serving his community and supporting those around him. Outside of Cadets, he enjoys volunteering with local fire brigades, camping, 4WDing and working on cars, with a strong love for the outdoors and community service.

Jackson’s Cadet journey began with a desire to make new friends, learn new skills and challenge himself. Since then, he has progressed through the Cadet ranks into the ACS ranks, having also completed national Army Cadet training courses and attended Adventure Training Award "ATA".

As an instructor and leader, Jackson is focused on continuing to develop his leadership, communication, instructional and decision-making skills, while mentoring junior cadets and setting a positive example.

His approach to leadership is simple: lead by example, support those around him, take responsibility and help the team succeed.

Looking ahead, Jackson aims to build a career where he can continue serving his community while developing his trade skills and leadership experience. He credits Army Cadets with helping him develop leadership, resilience, teamwork and confidence — skills that will continue to serve him well into the future.

Jackson’s goal is to become the best leader he can be, mentor the next generation of cadets, and leave a positive impact on 503 ACU.

Thank you for being a main part of the team, LT(AAC) Jackson Steele!

02-26 DRONE RACING ONE (STEM-DRGT1-NAT)

In July 2026, CDTLCPL Braxton Hartley represented 503 Army Cadet Unit through his attendance at the 02-26 DRONE RACING ONE (STEM-DRGT1-NAT) course.

The course provided Braxton with the opportunity to develop his knowledge and practical skills in drone technology, drone racing and STEM-related applications. Through practical activities and instruction, he was able to build his understanding of drone operation, control, safety, troubleshooting and the technical principles involved in drone racing.

Braxton's participation demonstrated his willingness to develop new skills and take on opportunities outside the traditional Army Cadet training environment. The course also provided valuable experience in problem-solving, concentration, technical decision-making and adapting to new technology, all of which contribute to his continued development as a cadet and emerging leader.

Assisting with the Instruction and delivery the course was CDTCPL Lilly Ramm, supporting the delivery of training and providing additional assistance to participants and staff throughout the activity.

Braxton's attendance at 02-26 DRONE RACING ONE represents another positive step in his development, broadening his skill set and exposing him to modern STEM capabilities that can be applied to future cadet activities and opportunities.

Well done to both CDTLCPL Braxton Hartley and CDTCPL Lilly Ramm, and thank you to CAPT(AAC) William Olman and his team of Cadets and ACS for their time and course delivery.

Unfortunately we are unable to be there physically today to support the Esperance RSL, but please make some time and show your support.

We invite you to join us at the Esperance RSL Sub Branch for a special service to honour all Australians who served in the Vietnam War.
This day marks the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, a moment of great courage and camaraderie. It’s a time to come together, share stories, and pay tribute to the strength and sacrifice of our veterans and their families.

🎖️ Supporter Sunday: Saluting Those Who Keep the Unit Moving!

Today we recognise a supporter whose impact on 503 ACU is felt across every level — Fun Zone Party Hire and the incredible dedication of Becky.

Fun Zone Party Hire has supported 503 ACU financially and physically, providing resources, assistance, and practical help that strengthens our capacity. Their commitment ensures our cadets have opportunities, our staff have support, and our unit remains mission‑ready.

But the heart of that support is Becky. She is the backbone of the business, the quiet force behind the scenes who keeps everything running smoothly. Her support doesn’t stop at Fun Zone Party Hire — as a Defence Approved Helper "DAH" she is also a strong support of 503 ACU, consistently helping our OC, CAPT (AAC) Jason Ramm, stay ready, organised, and on time. beyond that, she is the backbone of home, providing the stability and strength that allows Jason to give so much to the unit.

Support like Becky’s doesn’t just help the program — it sustains the people who make the program possible.

To Fun Zone Party Hire and Becky, thank you for your financial support, your physical help, and your unwavering commitment to 503 ACU. You keep the unit moving, and we are deeply grateful.

🎖️ Supporter Sunday: Saluting Those Who Keep the Unit Moving!

Today we recognise someone whose support has strengthened 503 ACU both behind the scenes and through direct leadership — Graham Wells of Farmers Centre WA Pty Ltd

Graham’s ongoing commitment to our unit has been practical, reliable, and deeply valued. His willingness to assist whenever needed has helped keep 503 ACU mission‑ready and capable. But his impact goes even further. As the employer of our OC, CAPT (AAC) Jason Ramm, Graham has consistently supported Jason’s ability to lead the unit effectively — providing flexibility, understanding, and encouragement that directly benefits our cadets and staff.

This kind of support doesn’t just help the unit operate; it strengthens our leadership, stabilises our capability, and ensures we can continue delivering a program that develops confident, capable young Australians.

To Graham Wells, thank you for backing 503 ACU, supporting our OC, and helping keep the unit moving forward.

Over the weekend, we paused to reflect, acknowledge, and remember past, present, and future servicemen and women.

503 ACU members began the ANZAC weekend on Friday afternoon at Esperance Senior High School, assisting in a ceremonial assembly as part of the school’s reflection. This was followed by an overnight activity, including preparation and final remarks from the CSM.

Saturday commenced at 0400 hours, with RSL setup and preparation, followed by the conduct of the Dawn Service. Members then returned to the unit for a well-earned bacon and egg breakfast, before stepping off again for final preparations ahead of the main parade.

Another successfully completed ANZAC weekend. Thank you to all involved 503 ACU members, families, Esperance RSL, and the Shire of Esperance.

This year was a big one for our Unit, filling many external roles, CUO Sean Kirwan - RSL Parade Commander, CDTWO2 James Wilson - Catafalque Guard Commander, CDTSGT Keeley Clarkson-Jones - Unit Parade Commander. CDTCPL Lilly Ramm - Lone Piper. Not to mention all roles filled by all other members, we held a Parade Strength of 24, our largest ANZAC turnout.

A special thanks to Rideon from 51 ACU Swab Regiment Drums and Pipes for making the trip, to play snare in assistance of our lone Piper.

Lest we forget.

CAPT(AAC)Jason Ramm
