🔥 Fire Danger Season Update 🔥

Fire Danger Season has now officially ended in the following Fire Ban Districts:
Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Lower Eyre Peninsula, North East Pastoral, North West Pastoral, West Coast, and Flinders.

While this is a welcome end to the season, we remind everyone in these areas to continue exercising caution when using fire. Recent rain and cooler weather can be misleading, and risks can still remain.

For the rest of the state, Fire Danger Season is expected to end on 30 April. These districts must continue to follow all current restrictions until the season is officially lifted.

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE – SANDBAGS AVAILABLE ⚠️

With heavy rainfall forecast across the weekend, particularly Sunday, and a Severe Weather Warning in place, we are encouraging residents to prepare early.

Localised flooding, water over roads, dangerous driving conditions and potential storm-related power outages are possible.

Sandbags are now available at the station for community members to fill.
If your property is prone to flooding or water runoff, we recommend collecting and preparing sandbags as soon as possible. Please feel free to use the shovels provided (please do NOT take with you as this leaves others without)

⛈️ Flood & Severe Weather Safety Tips ⛈️

🚫 Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater – if it’s flooded, forget it.
🌊 Stay away from creeks, rivers, storm drains and flowing water.
🛑 Obey road closure signs – they are there for your safety.
🍃 Secure loose outdoor items that may become hazards in strong winds.
🔦 Prepare for potential power outages – charge phones, have torches ready, and check on vulnerable neighbours.

⚠️ Sand and sandbags are available next to the CFS Station, for the storms/rain that appears to be at its worst Sunday evening to Monday morning (on current forecast, this could change). If you are prone to flooding please drop by and fill a few sandbags. There are 2 shovels available to use, please leave the shovels there so others can use and take only the sand bags you need for flood mitigation so there is enough to go around. ⚠️

Total Fire Ban Tomorrow (EXTREME)

TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for tomorrow Tuesday 27 January 2026 for the following Fire Ban Districts:

• Eastern Eyre Peninsula - Extreme
• Mid North - Extreme
• Mount Lofty Ranges - Extreme
• Yorke Peninsula - Extreme
• Kangaroo Island - Extreme
• Riverland - Extreme
• Murraylands - Extreme
• Upper South East - Extreme
• Lower South East - Extreme

Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted.
The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Fire Danger Ratings
Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
• If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.
• In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.
• Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council.
• Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.
• Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions

New tool launched to support the Deaf community in emergencies 🤳

The Auslan Emergency Interpreting Service (AEI) app has been officially launched, offering deaf and hard of hearing Australians live access to Certified Auslan Interpreters during emergencies.

Using secure video technology, the app enables real-time communication between a person in need and an interpreter, helping emergency services provide the right support. This is another important step in making emergency response accessible and inclusive for everyone in our community.

✅ Dials 000 direct
✅ Real-time relay
✅ Free
✅ Available 24/7

The AEI app is available at any time and can be used for any type of emergency. Watch the video below for more information and how it works: https://www.expression.com.au/news/auslan-emergency-interpreting-aei-app-to-launch

Alongside the National Relay Service, this is another resource we can help promote that supports effective communication during incidents and community engagement activities.

At the end of last year, CFS joined SAFECOM, SA State Emergency Service, and South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service at the Deaf Festival in the Adelaide parklands. During the festival, a video featuring key emergency services messages translated into Auslan by the Deaf Butterfly Effect was shared with attendees. Watch the video: https://youtu.be/h3mUy75oktg
