An early morning call-out to the crew of 288 Evans Head. While most of you were still sleeping (4 a.m.), the crew of 288 Evans Head were up, dressed, and responding to a two-vehicle accident (MVA) just up the road from the fire station. The response time was excellent. The fire truck (appliance) was positioned above the accident site in a β€œfend-off” position to protect all responders, as the hill and roundabout obscured the scene from oncoming vehicles. Fortunately, all persons involved were uninjured. We thank the Police and ambulance who attended the scene.
Remember to drive safely at all times.

It was a long night after an early morning start. Pump 288 was called to assist the RFS with a truck fire on the M1 motorway just south of Woodburn. Fire and Rescue 288 assisted RFS 8 with initial fast attack, protecting exposures to local bushland and the highway. Due to the load containing lithium batteries, additional resources were called for, including bulk water tankers.

Once all resources were in place, the offensive fire attack could commence, with the highway closed in the southbound direction. Firefighting occurred from both sides of the trailer, and environmental and safety issues were addressed. Numerous RFS units, including those from as far as Byron Bay and Dunoon, along with FRNSW Hazmat from Coraki, 267 and Evans Head 288, and Richmond Valley Council bulk water tankers, assisted.

Firefighting ceased around 7 a.m. when recovery operations began. A big thank you to everyone who helped: the police, ambulance services, multiple RFS teams, and FRNSW agents.

Following up from our portable battery charger fire on thursday night fire and rescue recommend
To never leave lithium battery devices unattended when charging
Charge all devices in a separate room to sleeping areas
Have a working smoke detector between sleeping areas and charging devices
This may and will keep your family safe

Last night pump 288 was responded to a lithium battery fire
Upon arrival all occupants were out of the two units and the fire luckily had been extinguished by a resident using a CO2 extinguisher limiting damage to the portable power bank that was charging. The situation could have been much worse if there was not extinguisher present and also highlights the dangers of leaving lithium batteries on charge over night . We had an all girl crew dealing with the situation i side the unit and rendering the area safe well done to all involved nsw
