Last week, Findon Technical College Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering students interested in university pathways had the privilege of meeting with Christiane Brendel, Partner at KPMG , and John Haese, Executive Director, Infrastructure Advisory .

What began as a short meeting quickly evolved into an engaging discussion as students heard firsthand about the diverse pathways, opportunities, and experiences that have shaped successful careers in engineering.

Students left feeling inspired and even more excited about their own futures, including the journey to Flinders University that will begin through our Enabling Studies program in Semester 2.

A huge thank you to Christiane and John for sharing their time, insights, and advice with our students.

💻🔐 **Hack the Mainframe: Cyber Security **

Our Year 10 Digital Technologies students recently stepped into the role of master hackers, taking on a series of cyber security challenges designed to test their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Working in teams, they uncovered clues, pieced together passwords from chat messages, decrypted login credentials, and even impersonated a staff member in an attempt to crack the safe and breach the "mainframe."

Through the experience, students gained valuable insights into digital privacy and cyber security, reflecting on how easily security can be compromised through simple mistakes. One key takeaway? Having a password is important—but keeping it written on a note under your keyboard probably isn't the best strategy! 🔒

A fun and engaging immersion that highlighted the growing importance of cyber security in our digital world.

Our Year 10 Health and Social Support students recently had the opportunity to hear from inspiring guest speakers about the many pathways available in the health industry.

Students listened to a Registered Nurse share her career journey and the variety of roles she has worked in across hospital settings. She also spoke about common patient conditions such as chest pain, wounds and bed sores, giving students a valuable insight into real-world healthcare experiences.

We also welcomed a Pharmacist and PhD researcher who discussed her career pathway, the areas she researches in, and shared some interesting myth busters about medications and their use.

The session provided students with a deeper understanding of the diverse opportunities within the health sector and the importance of ongoing learning and research in improving patient care.

STEM Hybrid Immersion Day Adelaide University

Our Year 10 Digital Technologies students spent the day tackling real-world STEM challenges

-They tested their precision and patience with a soldering challenge, building a Music Matcher game board.

-Using design thinking, they developed prototype solutions to repair a water pipeline damaged by a natural disaster.

-To finish, students designed and tested water filtration systems using everyday materials, exploring the challenges of water accessibility around the world and the importance of innovative problem-solving.

A fantastic day of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning!

Pit Stop Challenge!

Some of our students recently took part in a hands-on workshop with the Motor Trade Association, learning the practical skills involved in changing a tyre safely and efficiently.

After learning the process, it was time to put their skills to the test, with students racing against the clock to see who could complete the challenge the fastest!

A fantastic opportunity to build confidence, develop real-world skills, and gain an insight into careers within the automotive industry.

Findon High School was proudly selected by Open Parachute to host a special Adelaide Crows Foundation visit. This morning, eight of Findon High School's student leaders participated in this experience alongside four Adelaide Crows players.

The session, facilitated by Dr Hayley Watson (clinical psychologist and founder of Open Parachute), allowed for an open dialogue where students and players could openly explore topics such as mental health challenges and adverse experiences. This allowed for a safe, authentic space where students could genuinely connect with the players by hearing firsthand how they navigate similar struggles to build a sense of relatability and trust.

Palms students visited the Central Markets as part of their literacy and numeracy program. Prior to visiting, students used their PODD to select a delicious pumpkin soup recipe. At the markets, students purchased ingredients, communicated with shop keepers and enjoyed lunch at Samtass Seafood.
A big thank you to Haigh's chocolates for giving all the students a goodie bag to take home and Variety for funding transportation.
