Our wonderful Visual Art students had an amazing time visiting the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) at South Brisbane last week. We braved the unfortunate and unlucky weather, yet we had such a lovely time visiting one of our biggest Art institutions within Queensland.
We began our excursion with some morning tea, besides a wonderful Art installation, along the river. This is created by artists, Tony Albert and Nell, titled, ‘The Big Hose’. This is an artist-designed play sculpture in the form of an oversized, long garden hose. It’s always a favourite!
We were privileged to experience a Curators talk from GOMA, which provided us with further insight about the exhibitions and gallery operations. Students were amazed as they explored many art exhibitions including, Contemporary and Modern Art from Australian and International artists as well as permanent gallery collections.
Students particularly enjoyed interactive art activities within the Children’s Art centre by artist, Vipoo Srivilasa, with their exhibition titled, ‘Express yourself’. The Creative Generation, Excellence awards in Visual Arts, as usual, was also great to see. This exhibition features a selection of Senior Visual Art students from across our State, displaying very high standards of practice from General Visual Art pathways.
We were also, so privileged to see a major artwork installation, which proved a favourite amongst students. This was by artist, Archie Moore, titled, ‘Kath and Kin’ (2024). This was a recreation featuring bold first nations storytelling. This artwork was previously shown at the Venice biennale in 2024, a major worldwide art fair.
Here are some lovely happy snaps of our students enjoying their day out at GOMA. We are proud of how they represented our school beautifully at the Art gallery.
