Staff at Footscray Hospital marked National Reconciliation Week by learning the traditional art of Aboriginal weaving.

Led by master weaver and Gunditjmara woman Aunty Bronwyn Razem, the workshop gave staff the chance to connect through culture, storytelling and creativity.

From kangaroos and wombats to snakes and frogs, each woven creation reflected something personal and meaningful to the person who made it.

Thank you to Aunty Bronwyn for sharing her knowledge and culture with our staff and community.

Happy National Volunteer Week to all our wonderful volunteers 💙

At Western Health, our volunteers play a huge role in supporting the care we provide to our community.

From helping patients find their way, to providing social support, assisting with meals, working in our opportunity shops and more, our volunteers make our hospitals feel welcoming, connected and caring.

At our volunteer thank you lunch this week, some of our volunteers shared why they give their time to support our community.

Western Health is proud to support IDAHOBIT Day 🌈

This week, we hosted IDAHOBIT stalls at Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals, along with a youth event at The Space in Melton, recognising the importance of safe, inclusive and welcoming healthcare for everyone in our community.

We are also excited to announce the launch of Western Health’s new LGBTIQA+ Liaison Service.

The service supports safe and inclusive care for rainbow communities through peer support and advocacy for staff, consumers, families and carers. The team also provides advice, education and guidance to help strengthen affirming, trauma-informed practice across our health service.

Inclusive and accessible healthcare is a human right. At Western Health, we are committed to providing care without judgement or discrimination.

To everyone in our LGBTIQA+ community, you are welcome at Western. 🌈

Happy International Nurses Day! 🥳🙌

Every year, May 12th is a day to recognise and honour the extraordinary contribution nurses make to the health, wellbeing and lives of our patients, families and communities every day.

This year’s theme, ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives’, recognises the extraordinary influence nurses have not only in saving lives, but in shaping the future of healthcare. It highlights the skill, leadership, compassion and expertise nurses bring every day, and their vital role in improving health outcomes and strengthening communities.

Every day, nurses save lives.

They also improve lives in countless ways that may not always be seen or measured.

Through expert clinical care, advocacy, leadership, critical thinking and connection, nurses are there in moments of crisis, vulnerability, healing and hope.

They provide comfort in uncertainty, strength in difficult times, and dignity in every interaction.

They are often the people patients and families remember most, not only for what they did, but for how they made them feel.

At Western Health, nursing is woven through every part of our health service.

From bedside care in our wards and emergency departments to community and home-based care, education, research and specialist services, our nurses are central to the care we provide.

Nursing is more than a profession; it is leadership, advocacy, resilience, teamwork and healing in action.

Our nurses lead change, strengthen services, support one another and make a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of people across our community.

To every nurse across Western Health, thank you for all that you give to your patients, colleagues and community.

Thank you for showing up each day with professionalism, care and unwavering commitment, often in challenging circumstances.

Your skill saves lives, your compassion brings comfort in vulnerable moments, and your dedication strengthens our health service every day.

Today, and every day, please know how deeply valued you are and how grateful we are for the extraordinary contribution you make.

🏷️ Tag a nurse or a midwife in the comments and give them a shout out for their incredible contribution💙

A thoughtful gift for new mums 🍼✨

This Mother’s Day, we are grateful for the generosity of LIFE Community Melbourne who visited Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s at Sunshine Hospital to donate gift bags for new mums.

These wonderful volunteers donated 150 maternity bags, each carefully packed with essentials like newborn nappies, baby wipes, toiletries and self-care items.

Each bag also includes a handwritten note from a volunteer, sharing a message of support from one mum to another.

They also surprised our maternity team with 800 cookies as a thank you for the care they provide every day 🍪

We thank LIFE Community Melbourne for this thoughtful gesture, and we wish all mums in our community a happy Mother’s Day.

Construction milestone at Point Cook Community Hospital 🥳🎉

Construction is continuing at the Point Cook Community Hospital site in Dunnings Rd, and the building has now reached its full height.

The build is on track for completion next year, and we are looking forward to caring for our community in this brand-new facility.

Once open, the hospital will enable more people in the west to manage their health needs closer to their home.

Thank you to our wonderful intergalactic visitors from the 501st Legion Knightfall Garrison who visited Sunshine Hospital and Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s today!

You brought lots of joy to some of our smallest and bravest patients (and to the grown-up kids too). ❤️

Celebrating one year of Midwifery Group Practice at Bacchus Marsh Hospital 💜

We marked International Day of the Midwife today with our Bacchus Marsh community, and the incredible midwives behind this much-loved service.

The Midwifery Group Practice model provides continuity of care, with a primary midwife backed by a small team supporting each woman through pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.

By mid-2026, approximately 30% of births at Bacchus Marsh Hospital are expected to be supported through this program.

We are proud to offer this service to our community in Bacchus Marsh and across Melbourne’s west.

To all midwives, thank you for everything you do, today and every day 💜
