NSW State Road Crash Rescue Challenge 2026 – Wrap Up

Over the weekend, members of the NSW SES Forbes Unit had the opportunity to compete at the NSW State Road Crash Rescue Challenge.

As always, this event brings together some of the best rescue operators from across the state and beyond. It’s a great benchmark of where we’re at—and this year has shown us clearly that we’ve still got work to do to lift our performance to the next level.

That said, we’re proud of the effort our team put in. Competing at this level takes commitment, preparation, and a willingness to put yourself out there and be assessed. There were some strong individual and team moments across the scenarios, and plenty of lessons we’ll take away and build on.

From the official results, out of the 17 teams participating, Forbes achieved:
*5th place in the CPR Challenge
*6th place in Industrial/Domestic Rescue
*5th place in Trauma challenge

A solid platform to build from as we continue to refine our skills and systems.

A big thank you to the event organisers, assessors, and volunteers who make this challenge possible each year. These events don’t happen without a huge amount of behind-the-scenes work.

We’d also like to acknowledge the sponsors for supporting emergency services training and development at this level.

Finally, well done to all of the 17 teams who competed—there’s a high standard across the board, and it pushes all of us to keep improving.

We’ll take the assessor feedback on board, get back to training, and come back stronger next year.

Third and final day is on! 🚑 and it’s… well… not going as good for some of us 🤕

Our ladies were up first for the trauma challenge, faced with a cutting disc to the shoulder and a major laceration to neck.
They had 15 minutes to attend, assess, treat and monitor the casualty while awaiting ambulance arrival.

And while this is a just scenario with props, moulage and a scripted backstory, this is one of the many jobs ambulance and rescuers do attend to and it’s a great reminder that ppe and tool safety features are VERY important! 🥽⛑️

With a CPR challenge and Controlled Rescue challenge still to come, our team have a full day yet ahead of them!

Well, day 1 is all over 🙌🏼

After a morning of presentations focusing on EV’s and the additional hazards they pose rescuers, Road Safety and Leadership, then our team headed out to the Dubbo Showgrounds for the remainder of the symposium.

With scenarios involving Industrial and Domestic Rescue, Vehicle Intrusions and a Multi-Agency mass casualty road crash the team are feeling prepped and ready to take on tomorrows challenges 💪🏼

Day 1 is always a great day of learning and fine tuning our rescue skills, and building relationships with our partner agencies
