The NSW Government is continuing to invest in practical tools for farmers, expanding the Farming Forecaster network in the Central Tablelands with the installation of 2 new soil moisture probes at Ilford and Bathampton.

These new probes strengthen real‑time soil moisture monitoring across the region. With 11 probes operating across the Central Tablelands, you have access to even more local insights into soil conditions, pasture growth, and rainfall response - for free!

Live data is currently being calibrated and will soon be available for through the Farming Forecaster dashboard, supporting smarter grazing, feeding and seasonal planning decisions.

Dry conditions are increasing pressure across the region.

🐗 As feed and water become limited, feral pigs are concentrating around remaining resources - increasing the risk of damage to crops, pastures and infrastructure, and putting added pressure on livestock production systems.

These seasonal conditions create a critical window for control. Acting early, before impacts escalate, can make a real difference.

If you’re seeing signs of feral pig activity, now is the time to start planning your control program.

☎️ For more information or tailored advice, contact your local biosecurity officer on 1300 795 299.

🍄 Mycology May - discover the hidden world beneath our feet

Explore the forgotten kingdom with us and ecologist (and fungi expert) Alison Pouliot.

Australia is mega-diverse with fungi and has one of the highest numbers of endemic species in the world. In this video we’ll look at the diversity, habitats and categorising by morphological groups.

Great to be out on the ground with local producers as part of our Belubula PROGRAZE group 🌱🐑

The session focused on practical feed budgeting and using tools like GrazFeed to support confident grazing and feed planning decisions. With current dry conditions, PROGRAZE continues to be a valuable program - helping farmers assess what they have, plan ahead, and manage groundcover, livestock performance and pasture recovery more effectively.

It’s also a great example of our ag team working side‑by‑side with landholders, sharing practical knowledge and supporting productive, sustainable grazing systems across the region.

All part of the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting rural NSW and strong, productive farming businesses 🌾🐄

We know navigating things like PICs, livestock movements, permits and documentation can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re new to rural living.

Feedback like this reminds us how important clear, calm conversations are:

“I have always found her to be polite, professional and efficient. Nothing is ever a problem for her, and she goes the extra mile to make sure you are happy with the outcomes. Her bubbly personality is a bonus. I couldn't recommend her highly enough.”

The NSW Government's Local Land Services team is here to help explain the process, answer questions and point you in the right direction - no matter where you’re starting from.

📊 Considering using eID tags for data recording? 📈

A Meat & Livestock Australia study found an average $4.12 return for every dollar invested when using individual electronic identification (eID) to support smarter breeding decisions.

Why?

eID tags make it easier to record individual animal data, helping you fine‑tune breeding and selection for better flock performance - delivering real, measurable returns.

With uncertainty around fertiliser supply this season, many landholders are weighing up how and where to apply available inputs.

Considerations may include:
🌱 focusing inputs where they will have the greatest return
📊 reviewing soil and pasture condition
⏳ considering timing and seasonal outlook

Local Land Services can help assess your situation, and there are a range of online resources such as myStockPlanner (mystockplanner.dpi.nsw.gov.au) to help plan and track feed, recovery and costs.
