SES Foster Unit

SES Foster Unit VICSES Foster Unit are on call 24/7; Flood, Storm, Search & Rescue, Landslide & Earthquake response.

VICSES is made up of volunteers from a variety of ages, professions and backgrounds. The common link is their desire to work as part of a team that gives back to the community they live in. There are more than 5,500 VICSES volunteers state wide, all of whom provide their services free of charge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. VICSES volunteers contribute many hours of their time in different w

ays. They may undertake training and accreditation in operational roles such as storm, flood and road rescue preparation and response. Volunteers may also assist their Units in coordinating media, community events, training, logistics or management aspects. All roles require skills that the volunteers develop through training and practice, and combined, help to make their communities stronger and safer. Volunteers are encouraged to continually develop and update their skills by partaking in the various courses and training programs provided by VICSES.

It's National Missing Persons Week - a time to raise awareness of the issues surrounding missing persons, as well as attempts to reduce the number and the impact of missing persons in Australia.

VICSES volunteers play a crucial role in supporting Victoria Police in search operations across the state. They are highly trained to navigate specialised terrain in remote and harsh environments.

Attention Foster residents! Please be advised that VICSES Foster will be running a training exercise along the rail trail, near the men’s shed area tonight from 7:30pm onwards.

You may see several vehicles and volunteers in the area. Rest assured there is no call for alarm. This is a simulated training exercise to help our volunteers stay prepared for real-life emergencies.

Take care when travelling on the roads.

With recent wet conditions our members have been actively responding to call outs for trees over roads.

Here are some top safety tips to help you on your journey:

🚗 Drive to the conditions: Slow down and adjust your speed to match the wet roads.

🚙 Stay alert for hazards: Look out for dangerous road conditions, including low visibility, fallen or damaged trees and loose debris.

🚕 Plan an alternative route: Be prepared to change your plans or take an alternative travel route if roads are impacted or blocked.

⛈️ Stay informed by monitoring the latest weather updates at bom.gov.au and checking emergency alerts via the VicEmergency app, website, or hotline on 1800 226 226.

📱If you require emergency assistance for storm damage or flooding, call VICSES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, always call Triple Zero (000)

First there were snakes on a plane… now there’s a dachshund in a drainpipe 🐾

Earlier this evening, our volunteers responded to an unusual rescue after Chip the dachshund chased a rabbit into a drainpipe and became stuck approximately four metres inside.

With the pipe narrowed by built-up dirt, crews improvised by attaching a trowel to a pole to carefully remove the obstruction and create enough space for Chip to move.

After some patient work and plenty of encouragement, Chip was safely freed and reunited with his very relieved owner.

A great example of teamwork, problem solving, and the fact that no two callouts are ever the same!

🐇 The rabbit remains at large.
