❤️ Community Hero Recognised ❤️

A huge shout out to Frankston Fire Brigade member Melissa, who has been commended by Ambulance Victoria for her outstanding response to a GoodSAM alert in Frankston South.

With more than 33 years of service in CFA, Melissa provided vital patient care, assisted the 000 call-taker, and offered compassionate support to a patient's fiancé during an incredibly difficult and emotional emergency.

Melissa's calm actions, care and support for the patient's loved ones during an incredibly difficult time made a meaningful difference.

Melissa joined the GoodSAM program following the loss of her mother to cardiac arrest in 2018, motivated by a desire to help others through some of life's toughest moments.

“I do the GoodSAM program to help those in their time of need, so the commendation is an encouragement to continue knowing that my efforts do make a difference.”

Thank you, Melissa, for your dedication, compassion and commitment to the Frankston community. 👏🚒🚑

Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Melbourne Area - for damaging winds.
Issued at: 4:08 pm Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

Where:
For people in Port Phillip waters, Mornington Peninsula and parts of Western Port, South East, Western and Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula Local Warning Areas.

Situation:
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:05 pm, a line of showers and thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds were detected near waters off Geelong City, Leopold and waters off Pt Wilson. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east.

When:
Thunderstorms are forecast to affect Queenscliff, eastern parts of the Bellarine Peninsula, northern parts of the Bellarine Peninsula, northern Port Phillip Bay, Portarlington and southern parts of Port Phillip Bay by 4:35 pm and Frankston, Rosebud, Hastings, Mornington, Carrum and Dromana by 5:05 pm.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:10 pm.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Shane from the SES. On behalf of the members of the Frankston Fire Brigade, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues at SES Frankston Unit.

Shane’s dedication, courage, and commitment to serving the community will never be forgotten. He stood beside us in times of need, and his contribution to protecting our community will always be remembered with respect and gratitude.

Today, the SES Frankston family shares the deeply heartbreaking news of the passing of our much-loved member and friend, Shane Rogers.

Since joining our Unit in 2018, Shane brought with him a rare and genuine warmth that you simply can’t teach.
His generosity, quiet curiosity, and steady presence quickly made him an integral part of SES Frankston — especially within our training team — but to know Shane was to know that his impact went far beyond any role or title.

Shane was, at his core, someone who truly cared about people. He showed up — consistently and selflessly — as a source of support, encouragement, and kindness to everyone around him. He had a way of making time slow down during his famous cuppa-and-chat moments, where conversations would wander through his incredible knowledge and lived experiences, and you’d walk away feeling better than when you arrived.

Outside of the orange overalls, Shane’s love of motorbikes was well known. He found genuine joy in heading off on adventures, discovering new places to explore, or tracking down the perfect spot for a good coffee. It was this passion — combined with his deep commitment to helping others — that made the Peninsula Toy Run one of his favourite community engagement events that SES Frankston was proud to support alongside him.

He wasn’t just a dedicated volunteer. He was a steady hand, a warm presence, and a genuine mate to so many within our membership.

The legacy Shane leaves behind is one of compassion, quiet service, and unwavering support for others — a legacy SES Frankston is incredibly proud to carry forward in his name.

Our hearts are with all who knew and loved him.

Rest easy now, Shane — you can stand down. 🧡

Total is a day of Total Fire Ban for central district which includes Frankston 🚫🔥

An Extreme Fire Danger Rating has been forecast for tomorrow, Wednesday 11 February 2026, in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, Central, North East and West and South Gippsland forecast districts. Take action now to protect your life and property – fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous.

A Total Fire Ban has also been declared for these forecast districts.

This means no fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air.

Fire Dangers Ratings are forecast using Bureau of Meteorology data up to four days in advance, but can change on the day. Therefore, it is important to check the Fire Danger Rating for your area every day and know which rating is your trigger to act.

Black Saturday – 7 February 2009

Today we remember the lives lost, the communities changed forever, and the immense impact of the 2009 bushfires.
173 lives were tragically taken.
Thousands of homes and properties were destroyed.
Countless wildlife perished, and landscapes were scarred.
We honour those who lost their lives, stand with the families and communities who endured unimaginable loss, and acknowledge the courage and resilience shown in the aftermath.
Lest we forget.
