Fremantle Council last night voted in favour of opening an expression of interest process for the leasing of eight properties at Bathers Beach / Arthur Head for arts and cultural uses.

The vision for the Manjaree arts precinct is to be a vibrant, inclusive, creative precinct where First Nations culture, colonial heritage, and contemporary arts and culture connect and thrive together through community-led initiatives supported by the City of Fremantle.

The EOI process will be staged, beginning with the J-Shed studios, followed by the buildings in Trivett's Place and then Captains Lane.

Further details will be provided in the coming weeks.

🌱 Milbourne Street community planting day! 🤝

Residents rolled up their sleeves at a community planting day over the weekend, hand-weeding and planting 500 native tubestock, adding to the growing total of 2,000 plants now established on site!

A huge thank you to the residents who led and coordinated this effort! 👏

The City also delivered a new footpath connection and 11 street trees, improving canopy cover and closing out a Council action from last year.

Look out for the City’s winter planting and GreenLinks program (35,000 tubestock citywide) ahead of the winter rains!

💡 Ken Allen Field all lit up!

The new 100-lux LED floodlights are now shining bright across both rectangular pitches at Ken Allen Field in Beaconsfield.

The upgrade means more opportunities for local clubs, players, volunteers and families to train, play and gather at the reserve into the evening.

This project was shaped by community feedback through the Hilton Park Masterplan and made possible thanks to a $108,798 grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries' Club Night Lights Program.

Here's to more sport, more community connection and more time spent enjoying this much-loved local space.

Fremantle’s winter planting is underway — join in and green your verge. 🌿

As we enter Makuru, the Nyoongar season of fertility, rain and renewal, we’re encouraging residents to make the most of the cooler, wetter months by planting native and waterwise species.

Don't forget free tree mulch is available to all local residents at the Fremantle Recycling Centre (subject to availability).

For guidance on creating a sustainable verge garden, visit the City’s Verge Garden Guidelines via https://www.fremantle.wa.gov.au/waste-and-environment/trees-landscapes-and-verges/verge-garden-scheme/

Let’s work together to bring more green life into our streets this season.🍃
