Historic Double for HMAS Stirling 🏆🏆

On 14 May 26, HMAS Stirling made history, becoming the first Royal Australian Navy establishment to be awarded both the Duke of Gloucester’s Cup and the Governor’s Cup in the same year.

The Duke of Gloucester’s Cup recognises excellence across all aspects of warfighting capability, while the Governor’s Cup honours outstanding support to fleet operations. Together, they represent the pinnacle of performance across Navy.

This unprecedented achievement reflects the exceptional leadership, professionalism, and operational effectiveness of the personnel and civilians at HMAS Stirling.

A proud moment that underscores Stirling’s critical role in delivering maritime capability and supporting Australia’s strategic objectives across the Indo-Pacific.

The Republic of Maldives has taken delivery of the final Guardian‑class Patrol Boat provided by Australia under the Defence Cooperation Program in an official handover ceremony at HMAS Stirling, Western Australia.

This delivery builds on the long-standing relationship between Australia and Maldives, grounded in mutual trust and respect, and represents a significant milestone in our bilateral defence engagement.

As island nations, Australia and Maldives both rely on sea-lanes for security and economic prosperity. This delivery demonstrates both nations’ shared commitment to enhancing maritime security across the Indian Ocean.

The new vessel will enhance Maldives’ ability to conduct maritime surveillance, deter and respond to illegal activities within its vast exclusive economic zone, conduct humanitarian and disaster relief operations, and contribute to regional security and stability.

This marks the 24th and final Austal Ships Pty Ltd-built Guardian-class Patrol Boat delivered by Australia to a partner nation.

South West Aboriginal Medical Service Ltd (SWAMS) recently visited HMAS Stirling, marking the first time the organisation had been formally welcomed onto the base.

SWAMS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides high quality, culturally appropriate and holistic healthcare, supporting strong and healthy Aboriginal communities.

The visit was welcomed by the newly appointed Regional Indigenous Development Coordinator, Petty Officer Stacey Allen, and represented an important milestone in building respectful and enduring relationships with local Noongar communities.

Aunty Narva Eades, representing SWAMS, spoke to the significance of the occasion and noted that Elders from the Binjareb (Peel) region had long expressed a desire to visit Meeandip (Garden Island). For many, the experience carried deep personal meaning, with several Elders holding family or intergenerational connections to military service.

The engagement reflected Defence’s commitment to reconciliation through genuine connection, mutual respect, and strengthened cultural understanding, while laying strong foundations for continued collaboration with First Nations peoples.

Navy 125 Community Day ⛵️⚓️

Thank you to the thousands of visitors who joined us at Rockingham Naval Association to celebrate 125 years of Navy's service to Australia.

The event brought families, veterans, and community members together to recognise more than a century of Navy history, service, and connection.

Community days like this highlight the strong and enduring connection between Navy and the Western Australian community, and the role that relationship plays in supporting Australia’s maritime capability.

Once again, thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success.

Army Maritime Officers are currently undertaking the Royal Australian Navy Maritime Warfare Officers Course (MWOC) at Navy Training System Centre – West, HMAS Stirling, gaining the skills required to operate Army’s future littoral manoeuvre fleet.

The course delivers foundation-level mariner and warfare skills and culminates in the award of a Navigation Watchkeeping Certificate, preparing officers for their initial sea postings as Officers of the Watch.

On completion, graduates will join Army’s newly established Littoral Manoeuvre Group, forming part of the soldier-mariner workforce that will crew Army’s future medium and heavy landing craft, as well as upgraded amphibious vessels.
