This week was National Volunteer Week - as a Rural Fire Brigade, every single one of us at Woodlea in whatever capacity whether it be firefighter, executive member, associate, are all volunteers with full time jobs of our own outside of fire calls, training, hazard reduction burns, community events, meetings, administration (the list goes on!).

A big thank you to every single member at Woodlea Rural Fire Brigade for their commitment to the service and our Gatton and surrounds community, as without our members we wouldn’t have a rural brigade to protect our community 24/7 and offer community support.

A special mention too to the partners, children and families of our firefighters who always seem to have to race out the door for a fire call at the most inopportune times - thank you for supporting our amazing people! 🚨 🔥

Tonight Woodlea Rural Fire Brigade said a bittersweet goodbye to our First Officer, Mark Gilbert, as he hangs up his helmet at Woodlea and moves on to his next adventure in life. Mark’s unwavering commitment and dedication to the station as our First Officer from 2022-2026 has been the backbone for our Woodlea volunteer firefighter crews to continue protecting and assisting our Gatton and surrounds community.

From building competency in our experienced firefighters to dedicating hours upon hours teaching foundational skills to new members, the lifetime of knowledge, expertise and leadership Mark has given to us will truly be missed.

Mark has not only been our First Officer who we have relied on and trusted for his leadership on the fire ground, but he has also committed time behind the scenes to ensure Woodlea can continue to be the best brigade we can possibly be.

Thank you again Mark for your service and the countless hours you have spent protecting our community - you will leave a legacy at Woodlea we will all definitely remember! 🚨 🔥

More than 1,300 people are killed and 40,000+ seriously injured on Australian roads every year.

For our firefighters, alongside fellow emergency services, traffic crashes are among the most confronting scenes they are faced with on the front lines.

This National Road Safety Week is a time to remember all those who have experienced road trauma, and for all of us to take the pledge to drive so others survive.

Wednesday night training - tonight is truck check night! We have had many busy Wednesdays conducting hazard reduction burns for permit holders so it was time for thorough truck checks. Whilst truck checks are done every training night and after returning from call-outs to ensure we’re always ready to respond, thorough checks ensure our trucks are in top condition so that we are best prepared to protect our community! 📋📝 ✅ 👩🏼‍🚒🧑🏼‍🚒🔥🔥🔥

Today is International Firefighters’ Day — a day to recognise those who dedicate their time to protecting others.

Here at Fernvale, our brigade is made up of volunteers who step up when it matters most.

We’re proud of our team and grateful for everything they do for our community. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒❤️

Happy International Firefighters’ Day to all firefighters both working and volunteering, and a special shout out to to our Woodlea RFB firefighters for helping keep our Gatton and surrounds community safe 🔥 👩🏼‍🚒🧑🏼‍🚒

Tired of posting on local community groups and waiting for answers? See the advice from QFD below so you can get your answers as soon as you see smoke 🔥🔥🔥

Did you know you can check if there is a fire near you on the QFD website?

Over the coming weeks, you may start seeing smoke in your area. It may be because of important hazard reduction burns being carried out to help reduce the intensity and severity of bushfires.

You can stay across current warnings and incidents in one place so you can be ready when it matters most: fire.qld.gov.au/current-incidents
