It was wonderful to join the Geelong City Football Club tonight for their first official night game.

Tonight the U13 and U15 teams played their first game under lights, recently installed at the Howard Glover Reserve, thanks to a City of Greater Geelong Community Infrastructure Grant.

The Eagles are soaring to new heights, with junior membership numbers, and a strong, united committee, and a inclusive, welcoming supportive club environment.

Much needed upgrades to the pavilion, change rooms, storage, social rooms and canteen facilities are still in the planning stages. It's one of the City's key advocacy projects for the upcoming Victorian State election.

Today I was priveleged to draw the winning numbers at the St Albans Saints Football Netball Club Major Draw.

Major Draws are a fun, social day for clubs like St Albans, and importantly major fundraising opportunities to inject much needed funds into club operations.

Well done to the Saints for selling 400+ tickets!

On field the Reserves celebrated a trouncing win over North Shore, securing 4th spot & finals contention in the Geelong FNL Buckleys Reserves Cup.

Off field the celebrated longstanding Vice President Mark 'Sinko' Sinkinson's birthday, thanks to a cake from Club stalwart & kitchen commanderess, Lana Anderson.

Shout out to the Club Co-President Craig Osborne, Co-President & Netball Director Virginia Wilson, Vice-President Mark Sinkinson, and all the Club Executive and Committee for creating a genuinely inclusive, supportive and progressive culture at the Club.

Go Saints!

It was great to attend last night's Newcomb Power Football Netball Club Major Draw at the Club.

I was priveleged to draw out the winning number, then securely locked away until the end of the night, of course.

Newcomb Power had a cracker of a day yesterday.

Off field we celebrated the official opening of their sports lighting and infrastructure upgrades.

On field the Seniors win over Barwon Heads puts them in 4th spot & finals contention, a win by the All-Abilities Contact team vs the Giants, and a close result for the Non-contact All -Abilities side vs Bell Park, and wins by the A & C Grades, and a narrow loss to the B Grade netballers.

Thanks to Club Power President Matt Farrow, Netball Director Lisa Robinson, and Club Executive and Committee for their always warm welcome, and for creating a genuinely inclusive, supportive and progressive culture at the Club.

It was a cracker of a day at Grinter Reserve today, for the offical opening of the sports lighting and facility upgrades.

We've delivering much needed improvements for the local sporting clubs that use the Reserve, and the wider community. Including improved netball lighting, goal netting, player shelters, goal post realignment, and BMX track lighting and asphalting of the berm (banked turns).

We've achieved this thanks to Libby Coker MP, Member for Corangamite and the Australian Government investment of $600K, alongside $72,486 from the City of Greater Geelong.

Further work will occur over the coming months to complete the asphalting of the remainder of the track, improving the riding surface and reducing maintenance needs, thanks to $200K from the State Labor Government, and $150K I've secured in the City's Budget.

Shout out to every one who has advocated and worked to bring these upgrades to life, iincluding my fellow Councillor colleagues, Deputy Mayor Eddy Kontelj and Cr Anthony Aitken, Libby Coker MP and Christine Couzens MP.

A fantastic outcome for local sport and our community! πŸ‘

I'm proud to support community clubs and projects in the eastern suburbs of Geelong, and across the municipality.

That's why I'm so excited to support the great things happening at the Grinter Reserve, Moolap.

In this year's Council Budget I secured $150K to match the State Government contribution of $200K to complete the track upgrades.

And now I'm advocating for funding from the future State Government and Council to redevelop the infrastructure needed to support the Geelong Thunder BMX Club and the community, including modernised toilets, showers and change rooms, expanded social, kitchen and storage facilities to improve the access and experience for everyone using the facilities.

I'll continue to work hard for our community on projects like this, at Grinter Reserve, across the eastern suburbs and the Geelong municipality.

For more details check out my Geelong Times Cr Column this week.
