Standing with Nepal

Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal and everyone affected by the devastating floods and landslides, including the many people still waiting for news of loved ones.

We’re standing by our local and broader Nepalese community here in Greater Geelong during this incredibly difficult time.

Over the weekend, we lit the catenary lights and Moorabool Street lights in the colours of the Nepalese flag. They’ll continue throughout this week.

We are truly honoured and deeply grateful to see Australian leaders Deputy Prime Minister and minister of defence Hon Richard Marles MP, Hon Libby Coker MP, Hon Christine Couzens MP, Hon Ella George MP, Deputy Mayor Eddy Kontelj,Australian Federal Police stand beside us during this difficult time following the devastating floods in Nepal.

Your presence, compassion and support remind us that we are not alone. It gives our community a strong sense of safety, hope and belonging to know that our Australian leaders and friends Geelong Interfaith Network - GIN, Geelong Advertiser, 94.7 The Pulse, are standing with us. Thank you for standing with Nepal, standing with our community, and standing together in solidarity. 🙏

This catastrophic disaster is a devastating reminder that climate change is no longer a distant threat. The collapse of glaciers and sudden floods are destroying homes, communities and lives in moments. Innocent families are paying the heaviest price for a global crisis they did not create. Nepal urgently needs emergency relief, international support and climate justice.

Thank you for your kind generosity and support for those affected by the recent floods in Nepal. We sincerely hope the Australian Government will consider this important initiative and provide support to the people affected by this devastating disaster.
