๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’Tasmania Fire Service is warning of the potential fire safety risk to stockpiling petrol and diesel at home.

โš ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅStoring extra fuel at home increases the risk of fire, fumes, and creates unsafe storage conditions.

โžก๏ธ To keep yourself, your household, and your community safe, please be aware of the following advice.

๐Ÿ“Œ Store only small amounts of fuel at home and ensure quantities remain below dangerous goods threshold limits.

๐Ÿ“Œ Use approved, clearly labelled fuel containers that comply with Australian Standards for flammable and combustible liquids.

๐Ÿ“Œ Keep fuel in a cool, well ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and any potential ignition sources to minimise fire and vapour hazards.

๐Ÿ“Œ Store fuel separately from incompatible chemicals, ensuring containers are upright, secure, and protected from heat.

๐Ÿ“Œ Maintain appropriate fire safety equipment, such as a portable dry chemical fire extinguisher, and ensure anyone who may need to use it understands safe operation.

๐Ÿ“Œ Keep all flammable liquids out of reach of children.

๐Ÿ“Œ Be aware that vapours from flammable liquids can significantly increase fire risks in both home fires and bushfires.

RIP Legend

RIP Legend

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our colleague and friend, Neil Brooksbank, who passed away on 3 October 2025 after a long and courageous battle with illness.

Neil was a proud and dedicated member of the Tasmania Fire Service for more than 29 years.

His journey began in 1995 as a volunteer firefighter with the Huonville Fire Brigade, before joining as a career firefighter in 1999.

Neilโ€™s commitment and leadership saw him rise through the ranks, from Leading Firefighter to Assistant Director, and take on key roles that shaped the way we operate today.

Neilโ€™s impact extended far beyond Tasmania as he represented the TFS during international deployments to the Christchurch earthquake in 2011 and the British Columbia wildfires in 2017.

He also played a pivotal role in developing the TFS Aviation Wing and Remote Area Firefighting capacity, leaving a lasting legacy in both operational excellence and firefighter safety.

Neil will be remembered not only for his professionalism and service, but for his warmth, integrity, and the respect he earned from all who worked alongside him.

Our thoughts are with Neilโ€™s family, loved ones, and the wider TFS community as we mourn the loss of one of our own.

Rest in peace, Neil. Your legacy lives on.

** Update @ 1.20pm **

โš ๏ธ Following the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Clarendon Vale last night after a house fire at Lune River, detectives from South East CIB have charged him with:

โžก๏ธ Arson
โžก๏ธ Aggravated Burglary
โžก๏ธ Burglary x 2
โžก๏ธ Stealing x 2

The man was bailed with strict conditions to appear in the Hobart Court of Petty Sessions on January 12.

** Earlier today **

โš ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ Police are investigating a suspicious house fire last night at Lune River, in the stateโ€™s south.

โžก๏ธ The fire started about 6.05pm Wednesday with brigades from Southport, Dover and Geeveston called in. The fire crews arrived a short time later to find the building on Lune River Road fully engulfed in flames, and it has been destroyed by the fire.

โžก๏ธ A 22-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฎ Forensics officers, a fire scene examiner and Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are on site this morning.

๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿ“ž Information to police identified a vehicle leaving the house around the time the fire started. Officers from Dover Police Station were dispatched to the fire and intercepted a Holden station wagon, observing items in the car which police will allege were stolen from the property.

โ˜‘๏ธ The quick thinking and diligence of attending uniform officers is to be commended. The interception and search of the vehicle led to the identification of evidence and timely arrest of the suspect.

๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ“ž Anyone with information about the incident or who has dash-cam or CCTV footage that may assist police, is asked to contact 131 444. You can also report it to Crime Stoppers Tasmania on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
