Recently two of our own - RDA participant Bobbie and coach Caitlyn braved the winter weather to head along to the 2026 Winter Games, hosted by Horsepower-Collie recently, and came home with some brilliant results to show for it.

Bobbi took out first place in Jackpot Jumping, going up against a seriously speedy field in her age group, and also picked up the Coaches Award — recognising her hard work, determination and the progress she's made in the saddle. What an effort!

Caitlyn was right there competing alongside her, taking on six events across the day - keyhole, barrel race, cups, flags and jackpot jumping - and came away with an impressive three firsts and three seconds. A brilliant all-round performance!

Days like this don't happen without an enormous amount of support behind the scenes. A huge thank you to Jodie, who brought her own float along so Bobbi and Caitlyn's horse could get there and back safely, Jennifer, who generously covered the travel costs for the day, and Karen from RDA South West, who came along to support the team and cheer everyone on.

Thank you also to Horsepower-Collie for organising and hosting such a fantastic, well-run event - it's opportunities like these that give our riders the chance to build confidence, test their skills and be part of the wider riding community.

Well done, Bobbie and Caitlyn - we're very proud! 💛

Our toilet block has had a full overhaul, and it's made a bigger difference than you might think.

Accessible bathrooms aren't a nice-to-have here; they're crucial to the running of our centre! Many of our riders need space to move, room for a carer or a wheelchair, and facilities that genuinely work for them.

Bunbury Men's Shed took the entire renovation job on. They donated every hour of labour and supplied the materials from their own supplies. They also got onto Galvin's Bunbury, who donated all the plumbing hardware we needed.

Thanks to Bunbury Mens Shed and Galvin's Plumbing Bunbury something that every single family who comes through our gate will use.

Thank you Bunbury Mens Shed and thank you Galvins Plumbing Supplies. We're extremely grateful for your generosity!

Say hello to Sebastian - or Seb, as we know him! 🤎

Seb is a big, strong 15.3hh Standardbred gelding, born in December 2010 and the newest addition to our herd, joining us in 2024. Responsive, kind and getting better every single day, he is continuing to grow in confidence with his riders - and he absolutely loves a good brush and plenty of scratches. A horse after our own hearts.

We are so excited to watch Seb settle in and become a key part of our team. 🐴
Your sponsorship helps cover Seb's feed, farriery, vet care and equipment as he finds his feet with us - and helps ensure we can keep welcoming horses like him into our programme.

Everyone, meet Mr Chips - our longest-serving horse and an absolute legend at the centre! 🤎

Mr Chips is a 13.3hh Connemara x gelding, born in 1999 and with us since 2004. Cheeky, full of personality and always ready to work, he has a dainty trot and great all-round ability that makes him a firm favourite. He also loves a good chest scratch - and honestly, who can blame him.

Over two decades of showing up for our riders. We couldn't be more grateful for this little character. 🐴

Celebrating Sienna: Our Southwest Youth Volunteer of the Year 🏆🐴

We've got some very proud news to share - Sienna, one of our wonderful Tuesday volunteers, has been named Southwest Youth Volunteer of the Year! Sienna was nominated by our Hippotherapy Coach and long-time volunteer Margaret Paterson for the annual Volunteers South West awards, held at the Sunset Soiree at the Mantra Lighthouse Hotel on 21 May 2026 - and she won. We couldn't be more proud.

Sienna's been with RDA South West for a year now, and in that time she's become one of those volunteers a centre quietly relies on - always there, always willing, always genuinely happy to be helping out. Most mornings she's up and at the track before the sun's properly risen, training racehorses - trotting, cantering, getting horses ready for race day. Then it's home for feeding and more work, and then school.

We asked Sienna what she loves about volunteering with us, and she didn't hesitate. "I love it all," she said. "I love the horses, and I make friends with all the riders."

Volunteers like Sienna aren't just filling a roster slot - they're building real relationships with our riders, session after session, and that consistency means everything to the families we support.

Sienna's about to graduate from Southwest Community College, with racing in her sights for the future. Wherever that takes her, we know she'll bring the same heart and dedication she's shown every single Tuesday at our centre.

Congratulations, Sienna - this award is so well deserved. Thank you for everything you bring to our RDA family. 💛
