✨ **A Busy & Creative Few Weeks at MWCLA!** ✨

It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks filled with creativity, connection, and community! 💛

Our participants have been getting crafty, creating beautiful sun catchers that brightened our days ☀️but they took ages to dry. Lucky we have patient customers. We’ve also enjoyed some friendly competition during BINGO, with plenty of laughs along the way. Lauren was the very lucky winner today wining three out of four rounds, but was super kind and shared her prizes with the others.
In the HUB there has been some heated UNO and Yahtzee competitions. Luke has been leading the connect four challenges.

Judith and Neil ventured to Perth for netball last weekend – what an exciting experience! 🏐 We’re so proud to see our participants getting out and about, representing and enjoying new opportunities. The weather wasn't very kind to them so they got to do some other alternative activities such as ten pin bowling and mini golf.

Several of our customers have been enjoying getting out and about at the luncheons including the **Lighthouse luncheon**, sharing good food and the community company. 🍽️

We were lucky enough to be the recipients of a bunch of beanies and scarfs from the Knitters Club at the QE2, which our customers have enjoyed in this cooler weather

It’s moments like these that make our community so special – building friendships, trying new things, and creating lasting memories. 💫

🍳✨ Introducing Chef’s Kitchen at OUR CAFE! ✨🍳
We’re excited to launch our brand-new Chef’s Kitchen program in our brand new, purpose built kitchen! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳
This hands-on cooking program is all about building confidence, independence, and life skills in a fun and supportive environment. Participants will learn how to:
🥗 Prepare simple recipes
📝 Create a shopping list
🛒 Go shopping for ingredients
🔪 Practice safe food handling
🍝 Work as part of a team
🧼 Keep a clean and organised kitchen
Chef’s Kitchen is a great opportunity to develop skills for everyday life — and have a great time doing it! 💛

👏 Thank you to GHEMS and WA Hydromulch for your ongoing support.
📰 To all the local businesses around town who collect and save newspapers for us—your efforts truly make a difference.
🚛 And a special thank you to Geraldton Transport for generously freighting the newspapers to Perth free of charge.
Because of your support, we are able to continue meaningful recycling work that creates opportunities and positive outcomes for people in our community.
💚 We are so grateful for your kindness, partnership, and commitment to making a difference.
Thankyou to our customers and support workers who diligently collect the papers and bundle them each week. A big cheer to our community volunteers, especially Ross, who helps us keep on top of the newspaper bundling.

We had a fantastic time today at our Biggest Morning Tea combined with a lively game of Bingo! 💛
A huge thank you to Glenda, Tanya, and Kelly for bringing along some delicious goodies for everyone to enjoy – your generosity is so appreciated! 🧁🍰
We’d also like to thank everyone who came along and made a donation. Thanks to your kindness and support, we raised $47.25 to donate to the Cancer Council 🎗️
Every little bit helps, and we’re so proud to contribute to such an important cause while sharing a fun and meaningful morning together.

Our Café 6530 is a for-purpose café that provides people living with disability the opportunity to develop everyday life and hospitality skills in a supportive, inclusive environment.

We’re looking for someone who can make great coffee, deliver friendly customer service, and contribute to a supportive and inclusive café environment.

✨ What a fantastic week at MWCLA! ✨
We’ve had a busy and joy-filled fortnight full of creativity, connection and community experiences 💙
🎨 Our talented artists put the finishing touches on their incredible pieces for the Incognito Art Show — we can’t wait for everyone to see their creativity shine!
🎲 There was plenty of fun and friendly competition during our BINGO sessions, along with some great teamwork on the boccia court 🏅
🎂 A big highlight of the past two weeks was celebrating Melissa’s birthday with cake, smiles and lots of laughs — happy birthday again, Melissa! 🥳
🎓 We also headed out to the Careers Expo at the Uni Centre, exploring opportunities, learning new things, and building confidence for the future.
It’s been another wonderful week of building skills, friendships and memorable moments together 🌈

We are proud to celebrate the recent success of our Secret Agent Society (SAS) program, delivered to two cohorts of children aged 8–14 years. Participants took part in a 9‑week program, meeting weekly for 90‑minute sessions in a supportive small‑group setting.

Using an engaging animated secret agent theme, students worked together to “crack the code” of emotions and friendships. Through guided activities and an interactive online platform, participants learned and practised four key life skills: emotion recognition, emotional regulation, social problem solving and social skills.

It was wonderful to see students grow in confidence, develop new strategies, and build positive connections with their peers over the course of the program.

Our creative crew has been busy working on our Flotsam and Jetsam entry, and we’re excited to share a sneak peek of our Flotsambury theme entry.
We’ve created an Octopus’s Garden inspired by the joy of music from The Beatles and The Wiggles, transforming recycled ocean materials into a vibrant musical garden 🐙🌸🎵
Using recycled ocean materials collected from the Abrolhos Islands, our team has turned flotsam into something truly special – celebrating creativity, sustainability, and the magic of working together 💙♻️
