It was wonderful to see some Year 5 students in the office today with independent writing from their Knowledge unit about the First Fleet and the impact on the Aboriginal Culture.
This year, our Year 3-6 students have been engaging with knowledge rich, literature based core units, where high quality children’s literature is at the heart of learning.
Through meaningful texts, students develop strong reading and writing skills while exploring history, science, geography, cultures and important life concepts.
By learning in this way, students;
✨ Build rich vocabulary and background knowledge.
✨ Strengthen reading comprehension.
✨ Develop critical thinking and communication skills.
✨ Make meaningful connections across the curriculum.
✨ Foster a genuine love of reading and learning.
Knowledge is one of the greatest predictors of reading success. The more our students know about the world, the more they understand what they read and the more confident and capable they become as learners.
At Wandina Primary School, we are committed to providing every child with a high quality, education that empowers them to thrive, both in the classroom and beyond.
