Gerringong Rural Fire Brigade

Gerringong Rural Fire Brigade This page is run by operational members of the Gerringong Rural Fire Brigade and is not monitored 24/7. Please report all emergencies to 000.

For non-urgent enquiries, please contact the Albion Park Fire Control Centre 02 4230 8200. The Gerringong Rural Fire Brigade was formed in 1948 to protect and serve the Gerringong, Gerroa and Werri Beach communities. The Brigade is currently comprised of about 30 operational volunteers, both men and women. We are always interested in welcoming new members. To join the brigade, it involves filling

out some paperwork, a background check, and undertaking an interview. Upon acceptance, you begin basic training. This involves learning about fire behaviour, the equipment we carry, methods of firefighting, safety, and teamwork. There are currently no fitness standards. Young people aged 16 and 17 will require parental consent. For latest Emergency Information please visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au or like the NSW Rural Fire Service Official Facebook (www.facebook.com/nswrfs) or Twitter (www.twitter.com/nswrfs) pages.

Happy Mother’s Day!!

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

Tonight Gerringong Pumper responded to a call for assistance from a local landholder. A pile burn was proving difficult to extinguish and rising winds were causing significant embers. Gerringong extinguished the fire and cooled the area with assistance from Foxground RFS. A timely reminder given the mild weather to monitor pile burns and ensure sufficient resources are available to manage. Good work from the landholder in calling for assistance.

🚒 A Busy Thursday for Gerringong RFB

Thursday was a busy day for Gerringong RFB, with crews responding to four separate incidents across the region.

The first call came in around lunchtime to assist NSW Ambulance at a medical incident in Gerringong.

Not long after, the brigade was responded to a mower and running grass fire at Broughton Village. While the fire itself wasn’t overly large, it produced significant smoke that briefly closed the Princes Highway. Both Gerringong trucks attended alongside Foxground RFB, Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Brigade, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 224 Berry, NSW Police Force, and NSW Ambulance.

Just as crews returned to station, Gerringong was called to assist Jamberoo Rural Fire Service with a large battery fire. This incident took several hours to extinguish with support from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 488 HAZMAT. The site will continue to be monitored by Jamberoo and Gerringong crews over the coming days.

On the way back from Jamberoo, Gerringong was responded to its fourth incident of the day—an Automatic Fire Alarm at Calderwood.

A big thank you to all responding agencies and to our volunteers for their ongoing commitment to the community. Interested? Send us a message to find out how you can join.

🏆 Champions 🏆

A team from Gerringong RFB today competed in the annual NSW RFS Illawarra Sutherland Team Battle of the Brigades competition in the Darkes Forest area.

This event brings together brigades from Kurnell in the north to Foxground in the south, with volunteers tested across multiple challenges assessing time, accuracy, efficiency, and safety.

Gerringong came out on top — winning the overall event and taking home the coveted trophy. The team also secured a brand‑new nozzle, which will be put to good use on our Pumper.

Outstanding effort by the whole team. Well done!

This International Women's Day we give thanks for the amazing women of our brigade. The theme of IWD 'Give to Gain' is embodied by our volunteers, who give so much of their time, energy and commitment to helping their community, but hopefully in the process gain skills, friendships and the satisfaction of making a difference.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to the team at Gerringong Bowlo, their members and guests who all supported the Community Raffle throughout the month of February. They were able to raise $2460.00 which has been generously donated to our brigade.

We also took the opportunity each week to engage with the local community during the raffle.

Thank You Gerringong!

🔥 House Fire – Elambra 🔥

On Sunday afternoon, Gerringong RFB responded to a structure fire in the Elambra Estate. At the time of the call, both of our trucks and crew were already in Gerroa, attending an earlier motor vehicle accident where a car had collided with a wall and fence at the Seven Mile Beach Caravan Park. With that scene made safe, our crew was able to respond back to Gerringong for the house fire.

Thanks to the quick actions of neighbours, the fire was contained to a single bedroom. There were no injuries, though the home did sustain smoke damage throughout.

Thanks also to our colleagues from Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Brigade, Jamberoo Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 346 Kiama who all attended and assisted.
