The QAS Giru station is looking to recruit volunteer drivers in Giru, Jerona, and Woodstock/Majors Creek areas, as well as First Responders in the Cungulla area
Volunteer drivers allow our single officer paramedics to continue treating a patient during transport to a local hospital.
First Responders are volunteers that are trained to deliver certain treatments before QAS arrive and can assist in the treatment or transport of a patient with QAS paramedics.
If you would like more information, or to apply, please contact [email protected]
Or we will be at the Giru School Fete if you would like to discuss in person. Or feel free to drop into the station and chat to our Paramedics.

Don't forget we will be at the Giru Show on Sat 11th Sept. We will have give-aways for adults and kids, and you can practice and learn CPR in a fun challenge.
You can have a chat with our Paramedics and even get your blood pressure and blood sugars checked. Make sure you come and say hello

Restrictions are slowly easing in Queensland due to a flattening of the COVID-19 curve.

The Queensland Government have released a roadmap which outlines what restrictions will be lifted and when.

For further information on this road map, please visit: https://qld.health/Roadmap

Queenslanders have done a great job at slowing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and flattening the curve. Because of this, we can now slowly start to lift restrictions here in the sunshine state.

Today, the Queensland Government has released a roadmap which outlines a phased approach to how and when this will happen.

The impact of these changes will be assessed every four weeks at each ‘checkpoint’. If everyone continues to follow the restrictions and we keep seeing less cases, further restrictions will be lifted. However, if there is a significant increase in cases, restrictions may be reversed.

It will be up to each and every one of us to continue practicing good hygiene, social distancing and common sense. Together we will get through this.

We've heard so many myths about treating coronavirus (COVID-19), so we're here to set the record straight.
Sunbathing can stop you catching COVID-19 = ❌ BUSTED.
Essential oils can stop you catching COVID-19 = ❌ BUSTED.
Garlic can stop you catching COVID-19 = ❌ BUSTED.
Hot drinks can stop you catching COVID-19 = ❌ BUSTED.

There is no evidence that any of the above myths will protect you from COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands properly and often; stay at home as much as possible, only leaving when it is essential; cough or sneeze into your elbow or a clean tissue; and follow social distancing recommendations.

Another good option which will help to keep Ambulances and Hospitals for Emergencies.

The Australian Government has expanded Medicare-subsidised telehealth services for all Australians.

This expansion to telehealth means that people will now have access to essential health services in their home. This will support self-isolation and quarantine policies to reduce the risk of exposure and spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and will also help vulnerable doctors to continue to deliver services.

We encourage Queenslanders to talk to their regular general practitioner about whether telehealth is an appropriate option for them.

We've listed some of the available services below ⬇️

Some great information for Queenslander's to enable us to fully understand and comply with the two-person rule this Easter long weekend and beyond. Remember, you may only leave your home to visit another for an essential purpose (besides, the more people in your house - the more people you'd have to share your Easter treats with! 🐽🍫).

Wondering how the two person rule works? ➡️ For a residence or household, the number of people allowed to gather in that house is limited to the usual members of that household, plus two other visitors who are family or close friends. Please only leave your home for essential reasons - we've commented them below ⬇️

Update:

We've noticed a number of people asking two very important questions about this post:

1. Does this mean I can make a social visit?
2. Are my children included in this count.

The answers are:

1. For this weekend and the foreseeable future, we recommend only leaving your house and visiting others for essential purposes, for example providing them with assistance or support such as bringing them groceries they cannot purchase themselves, helping with medical care or helping them with urgent household tasks they are unable to do themselves.

2. The Home Confinement Direction states that only two people who do not live in a residence may visit at one time. This includes children and infants. We understand this can be difficult for families, however this rule is in place to protect all members of our community from the spread of COVID-19.
