Meet Marilyn, Bec and Di! 🧡

This Saturday, these three incredible women will be taking on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb in full firefighting kit, climbing 28 floors to honour the 343 firefighters and emergency services personnel who lost their lives on 9/11.

You might be wondering… why?

Well, it’s for a pretty incredible reason. Along the way, they’re raising vital funds for 000 Foundation, Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and Lifeline.

All three are proud SES volunteers, but Marilyn and Di also wear a second hat — or should we say, another helmet! 👩‍🚒

They might not all be wearing orange for the climb, but when that pager goes off, they come together.

Different uniforms, different roles, but the same commitment to serving their community, supporting their fellow emergency services volunteers and being there when it matters most.

Good luck Marilyn, Bec and Di! We’ll be cheering you on every step — and every flight of stairs! 💪🧡

🧡 Happy Father’s Day! 🧡

Today we’re celebrating all the dads, grandads, stepdads, father figures and the mums who play both roles that make a difference every day.

To all the SES dads and parents who volunteer their time to help others, respond to emergencies, train and support their communities — thank you!

We hope you get to put your feet up today, enjoy some quality time with your family and maybe even stay away from the pager for a little while! 😂

🚒🔥 Girls on Fire is Coming to the Macedon Ranges! 🔥🚒

Join us on Wednesday, 14 October, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Woodend CFA for the Girls on Fire Program.

This free, one-day program invites young people of all genders aged 14-19 years to participate in hands-on activities, real-world emergency scenarios, and team challenges designed to build confidence, resilience, leadership skills, and an understanding of emergency services.

Whether you're interested in volunteering, exploring future career pathways, or simply looking for a unique and exciting experience, this program is for you!

⚠️ Severe Weather Warning for Gisborne & Surrounds ⚠️

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds, with Macedon and Central Ranges areas potentially experiencing wind gusts of up to 90 km/h from early Saturday morning.

Please take precautions now by:
✅ Securing loose outdoor items
✅ Parking vehicles away from trees where possible
✅ Staying indoors and away from windows during peak winds
✅ Avoiding travel if conditions become dangerous

Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds.
Issued at 10:58 pm Friday, 4 September 2026.

Where:
For people in South West and parts of Central, East Gippsland, North East, West and South Gippsland, Wimmera and North Central Forecast Districts.

Locations which may be affected include Warrnambool, Stawell, Hamilton, Portland, Falls Creek and Edenhope.

When:
Damaging winds to develop in alpine areas from late tonight, extending to central and southwest parts on Saturday morning.

Situation:
A strong cold front will approach Victoria early on Saturday and continue to move east across the state during the day. Ahead of this system northwesterly winds have increased over northeastern ranges this evening, and stronger winds will spread into central and western areas during Saturday morning. Winds will then turn more westerly during Saturday afternoon with the passage of the front.

For the northeast ranges and alpine areas: Damaging north-westerly winds averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts up to 110 km/h are likely from late this evening.

For parts of the Macedon and Central ranges: Damaging north-westerly windsaveraging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible from early Saturday morning.

For parts of the southwest: Damaging wind gusts with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible from Saturday morning, most likely in showers and thunderstorms.

Damaging winds are expected to ease from the Macedon and Central ranges late Saturday morning, from the southwest early Saturday afternoon, and from remaining areas during Saturday evening.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.
Check https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Saturday.

Earlier this year, we shared the exciting news that our very own Di Dale had been awarded the Emergency Services Medal (ESM) as part of the Australia Day Honours.

This week, that recognition became even more special, as Di was officially presented with her medal at Government House.

The ESM recognises distinguished service as a member of an emergency service organisation — and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.

UPDATE - DOG HAS BEEN COLLECTED BY THE RANGER

FOUND DOG - Gisborne CFA

Someone has clearly decided that Gisborne Fire Brigade - CFA needed a new recruit… and we’re not sure they’ve passed the entrance exam yet. 😂

This beautiful, very fluffy pup has been found in the Gisborne area and is now safely secured in the rear yard of Gisborne CFA.

They’re safe, but we suspect they’re currently considering a career change into emergency services. 👀🐾

If this is your four-legged friend, please make your way to Gisborne CFA to collect them.

🚨🐶 MEET THE DOGS OF GISBORNE SES 🐶🚨

It’s International Dog Day, so naturally we’re introducing the real VIPs of Gisborne SES! 🧡

They may not know how to lay a sandbag, operate a chainsaw or conduct a road crash rescue… but they’re experts at:

🐾 Stealing snacks from volunteers
🐾 Providing emotional support after a long callout
🐾 Looking very concerned when the pager goes off
🐾 And being very good boys and girls!

But while our unit dogs are here for moral support, there are some seriously impressive working dogs out there. 🐕‍🦺

Australian Search and Rescue K9 unit put their incredible noses, training and dedication to work searching for missing and vulnerable people. They’re a pretty special part of the emergency services family — and definitely make our dogs look a little less, what shall we say, qualified! 😂

So today, we’re celebrating all the dogs of emergency services — from the highly trained search and rescue K9s to the ones whose main qualification is professional snack detector. 🐶🧡

When:
Damaging winds possible in Melbourne and the central ranges today.

Situation:
A strong northerly flow is forecast to develop this morning ahead of a trough crossing Victoria, bringing strong winds over central parts of the state. Winds will then tend northwesterly and ease during the afternoon in the wake of the trough.

Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible throughout the central ranges this morning. After sunrise these winds may extend into Melbourne and parts of the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas.

Winds are expected to ease during the afternoon.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
