Over the last few cadet trainings, our main focus has been getting ready for the championship in October. They are doing this by improving their skills, including communication, leadership, hose work, and initiative.

Last trainings focus was hose work, laying the hose under control, staging in a quick manner and rolling them back up promptly.

Yesterday they focused on communication and taking initiative, they took turns briefing their teammates, pointing out the specifics of the scenario and making each other aware of how they are going to approach the situation. In doing this they communicated using their voices and using hand signals.

Tonight our Seniors participated in another simulated training drill. A page was recieved stating structure fire at the oval complex. Reported chicken coops on fire. Upon arrival a 360 was conducted and due to the fuel load a grass fire had started. Crews working offensivly attacked the grass fire, and then defensivly worked on extinguishing the chicken coops. After our drill the play started. One of our newer members got to try a structure branch on a 65mm hose. Pumping out 480litres per minute, it sure makes that hose very heavy and very hard to hold on too! We then ventured to the local playground for some blind adventures. Being creative with what we could use as blindfolds, we geared up and sent our crews onto the playground to see how they went navigating. An excellent night out with both simulated training and fun. Thanks to all who make these trainings possible.
