Every day across our six library branches, dozens of staff bring together the legacy of the thousands of books they have collectively read, shared, debated, loved (and sometimes respectfully disagreed about!).

That collective knowledge helps shape the shelves you browse, the titles we recommend, and the conversations we have with you.

When you ask us for “something like that book I loved” or “a good read for the weekend,” you’re not only drawing on one person’s experience, you’re tapping into a shared reading history - a hive mind! - built across genres, generations, and years of library service.

It’s one of the most special things about your local library ❤️

There is a long list of reasons why the Glen Waverley Library no longer meets the needs of the community, so it's VERY exciting that by the middle of this year we will commence construction on a brand new state-of-the-art library!

The current Glen Waverley Library will close very soon - on Monday 8 June.

Library items can be returned before 5pm on Sunday 7 June, or to another branch, as the after-hours return chute will be no longer accessible from this time.

Two new temporary library sites will open in July to ensure we can continue to deliver essential library services to our community until the library reopens in 2028.

WordFest 2026 concludes with the 𝗦𝗶𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, featuring acclaimed author, journalist and publisher 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿.

Drawing on his influential book 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘯 𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘒𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘸𝘴, Beecher will examine how power, ownership and commercial pressure have reshaped journalism and weakened public trust. With clarity and urgency, he will further explore what is lost when independent media fails, and why robust journalism remains essential to democratic life. Incisive and thought‑provoking, this landmark lecture invites deep reflection on civic responsibility and the future of public discourse.

Glen Waverley Library was an impressive and much needed community facility in its day, but 50 years on, it no longer meets the needs of our community.

We are so grateful to now have the opportunity to rebuild a fully re-imagined, state-of-the-art brand new library that is expected to open in 2028.

The current library will close its doors from Monday 8 June, and two temporary libraries will support the local community until the new library is complete.

The temporary libraries will be open in July:

Glen Waverley Library Express,
173 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley

Glen Waverley Children’s Library,
Black Flat Community Hall,

𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙥, 𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡

Broadcaster, writer and food media favourite Melissa Leong joins WordFest to discuss her boldly honest new book 𝘎𝘶𝘵𝘴.

In this sharp, funny and deeply personal in-conversation event, Leong will explore the subjects of courage, reinvention and learning to trust yourself. Drawing on experiences across food, media and creative industries, she will explore ambition, vulnerability, cultural identity and the messy reality of building a life and career on your own terms. Insightful and energising, this session celebrates resilience, curiosity and backing yourself, even when the path is unclear.

Just kidding, the real reason we are knocking down the library is because we have outgrown what the building offers 😀

Missed the news?

The Glen Waverley Library will temporarily close from Monday 8 June to allow construction of Council's $110 million Glen Waverley Civic Precinct Project which is expected to be completed in 2028.

The project will deliver a brand new state-of-the-art library that will include modern and flexible shared spaces to support learning, creativity and community connection.

During construction, two temporary library sites will provide reduced, but essential, library services to our community in Glen Waverley.

𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻

Former Port Adelaide captain and one of the AFL’s most respected leaders, Travis Boak joins WordFest to discuss his powerful memoir, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯.

Long admired for his discipline, preparation and longevity at the elite level, in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 Boak turns inward to reflect on grief, emotional resilience and the psychological work required to perform, both on and off the field. Shaped by the early loss of his father, the book traces a journey towards vulnerability, self‑awareness and inner strength.

Honest, reflective and deeply human, this in-conversation event explores leadership, mental wellbeing and the courage it takes to confront what we carry within.
