Summer is approaching, making now the perfect time to make sure you, your family, and your home are prepared for the upcoming fire season.

Our brigade will be running a Get Fire Ready stall at the next Glengarry market:

📋 Build or update your bushfire survival plan. Chat with some of your local volunteer firefighters to help create or update your plan.

🏡 Get advice on clearing gutter debris, managing vegetation, and getting your home ready ahead of the fire season.

🚒 Interested in joining the brigade or learning more about what we do? Talk to your local firefighters at our stall to find out more.

Ever wondered why the Glengarry Fire Station siren goes off during the day? 🚨

Here’s what that sound actually means for our community:

🔊 Why it sounds: The siren sounds when our volunteer firefighters receive an emergency call-out. It acts to alert our firefighters and the community that an emergency is occurring.

⏰ When it operates: Any day year round between 7am and 7pm. It will sound for 90 seconds (unless one of our volunteers gets to the station to turn it off first!)

📲 What you should do: Hearing the siren is your prompt to stay aware! Check the VicEmergency app or visit emergency.vic.gov.au to see active incidents and warnings near you.

🚗 On the road? Keep an eye out: If you're driving when you hear the siren, stay alert for emergency vehicles responding to the call.

Fire restrictions start in Wellington Shire on Monday at 1am.

The Fire Danger Period will begin 1.00am tomorrow, Monday 5 October 2026, for the following municipalities:
Wellington Shire Council
East Gippsland Shire Council

Make sure you know what you can and can't do during the Fire Danger Period.

Coming to the Glengarry Market today? Make sure to avoid parking in front of our station (including the grass area between the footpath and the station) to allow our volunteer firefighters room to park in case of a callout. Please also avoid driving into the station driveway to leave the way clear for our trucks and firefighters.

Planning on going to the Glengarry Market next Sunday? Please help our volunteers by not parking in the station driveway or the grass area directly in front of the fire station. Our volunteer firefighters need to be able to access parking at the station at all times in case we receive a callout. Recommended parking spots are on Main St, out the front of the school, and around the footy oval.

Interconnected smoke alarms will alert you of a fire no matter where the fire starts in your home.

Today at 2pm the Australian Government will be undertaking a national test of AusAlert. AusAlert is a new national warning system to send out messages to compatible mobile devices during times of disaster.

This test will occur nationwide, and your compatible mobile devices such as a mobile phone or tablet may receive a test alert. The notification will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound for 10 seconds. If this could disrupt you or make you or a loved one feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time and leave them turned off for at least 1 hour after.
