Glenlyon Rural Fire Brigade - CFA Volunteer fire brigade located in the Shire of Hepburn in Central Victoria, around 100km NW of Melbourne. Part of the Glenlyon Group in CFA District 15.

Glenlyon Rural Fire Brigade is Part of the Glenlyon Group in CFA District 15 (Midlands-Wimmera Area), along with Daylesford, Franklinford, Hepburn, Leonards Hill & District, Musk, Porcupine Ridge, and Trentham. Our Captain is Brett Mason, 1st Lieutenant Damien Leonard, 2nd Lieutenant Brian Kew.

Last night we had another 6 firefighters complete their external breathing apparatus (BA) course. This increases our capability further to combat fires and incidents where toxic gases, heat and oxygen deficiency is a concern.

Keeping our community safe and our firefighters protected is our mission!

June 1st and the first official day of winter is nearly here. 🥶

Did you know that June 1st is also
SMOKE ALARM ACTION DAY.
It’s a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detector (some newer smoke detectors have batteries that last up to 10 years) and test your smoke detectors.

CFA and FRV are urging Victorians to:
* Test smoke alarms monthly
* Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, living area and hallway
* Interconnect smoke alarms where possible
* Replace smoke alarms every 10 years
* Keep clothing, bedding and curtains at least one metre from heaters
* Never leave candles, cooking or heaters unattended
* Make and practise a home fire escape plan

🔥Today in the early afternoon, we were paged to a grass and scrub fire 🔥
Upon turning out we were advised there may have been a structure under threat.

Thankfully, upon arrival the fire had slowed down due to the help of some quick thinking neighbours.

The fire was brought under control relatively quickly but due to the steep and difficult terrain took a while to extinguish.
Glenlyon was assisted by multiple surrounding briagdes. We want to thank all briagdes for their quick response.

🚨 Please remember even though we are out of fire danger period that due to our area still being pretty dry, fires can and will get out of control if not attended to in the necessary ways 🚨
For example:
- 3 metre area cleared around the fire
- water on hand should something go wrong
- check weather conditions before burning, make sure the wind is below 13km (to gauge this look at tree branches, if they have medium to high movement, it's too windy to burn)

We will remember them.

This Anzac Day, we pay our respects to those who have served, and continue to serve our communities. We are grateful, for everything they have done and Continue to do.

We honour those we have lost and remember their sacrifice.
