Friday Staff Spotlight!
This week we have Sarah πŸƒπŸͺ΄
Sarah has a deep love for nature and the great outdoors. If she's not reading a book about plants or animals, you'll find her outside exploring!
Her book choices this week reflect that:
The Vaster Wilds, a fictional novel about a young girl alone in the wilderness just trying to survive.
The Serviceberry, a non-fiction book that explores gift economy, and what plants can teach us about living with the world.
Under The Hornbeams, a non-fiction memoir about the author's friendship with two men experiencing homelessness in London and their daily struggles and triumphs as they defy society's expectations and forge their own path.

Pick up a book and discover more about the world around you today!

The Australian Government is introducing a new emergency warning system later this year called AusAlert.

AusAlert uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during local and national disasters.

These messages aim to keep communities informed so they can take action, saving lives and property.

In the lead up to AusAlert being used, there will be some testing of the system during June and July.

A regional test is happening in the Launceston area on 15 June, followed by a national test on 27 July.

For more information and resources, visit www.ausalert.gov.au.

Friday Staff Spotlight!
This Friday we have staff member Kim 🌱
Kim is proud to say she judges her books by their covers. A bold colour, an interesting font, something sparkly, these are all things that draw her eye. When it comes to the actual plot though, she enjoys stories that focus on characters and the journeys they take.

Her first book is 'James', a retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn told from Jim's point of view. The two main characters face many dangers along their travels to freedom and discover new things about their world and themselves.

Her other two books are non-fiction: 'Spent' is an autobiographical graphic novel written by a cartoonist trying to cope with the modern world using humour. 'trouwerner' follows Elder Aunty Patsy Cameron as she weaves a yarn about her childhood and the power of truth-telling.

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes with this week's picks! πŸ‘Ÿ
