🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️ More Kingborough residents are choosing to walk and ride

New data from the 2025 Super Sunday Recreation Count shows a 15% increase in active travel across Kingborough compared with last year.
The results highlight a growing shift towards walking and cycling as part of daily life, helping to create a more connected and accessible community.

👟 The busiest location was Balmoral Road and Beach Road at Kingston Beach, with 668 trips recorded in just three hours, a massive 58% increase on last year.
🌿 Use of the Whitewater Creek Track has nearly doubled over the past two years.

These annual counts, conducted by Bicycle Network , provide valuable insights into how our community uses walking and cycling infrastructure and help Council plan for safe, accessible and well‑connected routes into the future.

By continuing to invest in active travel, we’re making it easier for people to stay active and get around their neighbourhoods.

Tasman Bridge works this Friday - Traffic controllers will be on the eastern shore pathway on Friday 20 February between 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM to allow for works on the elevated structure that connects the eastern shore path to bridge.

There may be short delays of around five minutes at a time on the southern pathway between Riawena Road and where the path crosses over Conara Road

Project information can be found at: www.transport.tas.gov.au/tasmanbridgeupgrade

A new road into the ports at the regatta grounds will go over the top of the Intercity cycleway. The plans (pictured) show an underpass but the design has since been modified. The cycleway will now bend slightly to the south and go under a bridge at the access road to Huon Quays. This will be lighter and more open with a greater sense of safety. Comments can be made on a pin-drop map until Sunday 22 February. Visit https://engage.stategrowth.tas.gov.au/macquarie-point

We’re welcoming back 99 Bikes to help celebrate the one-year birthday of their Hobart store at the Ride2Work Day breakfast on Wednesday 15 October.

Head to their marquee for advice on buying an e-bike, they’ll have a range of e-bikes from the entry-level Pedal bikes to the German favourites, Cube.

They’re also going to run free bike checks at the bottom of the Rivulet Path during October to help riders keep rolling, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re heading to or from South Hobart.
